Maybe they're happy with it as it is? :P
The tool caters to pretty much exactly the type of person you see in those videos, so I'm not surprised that they like it. Also, I'm not surprised that people have higher standards on this forum. It IS a forum dedicated to multi tools after all.

Good on them I say. There's lot of truth in some of their observations too.

I stated before, this tool will be liked by many and disliked by some. It's got its place and applicability with the light hikers and amateur outdoor enthusiast, which admittedly make the majority of the 'outdoorsy' folk these days.

I for one, have slowly drifted into that category over the recent years since the family and kids have taken over my more serious multi-day outdoor escapades. Heck, who knows, I may be one of those who start using Signal in the future too...as my Surge/Benchmade/firesteel/whistle discrete combo becomes relegated to the spare 3-day BOB.

All said, the main issue for many, and one of the MAJOR reasons of discontent with this tool is it's high price. It's a novelty, yes, no other MT manufacturer has come up with anything similar in such an attractive 'complete' set of outdoor implements (Obi, skip it this time please), true...but the novelty will eventually wear off and the price should come down too to better match Signal's outdoor capabilities and tool load which while not great, it's pretty good as it stands at the moment.

 :salute:

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I've just got the wrong eyes

I genuinely struggle to understand why folks like it, as all I can see are the things that would really annoy me, and I feel the price issue is only so bad because of the design issues. If others see a different picture, so be it. I'm sure that some of my tool choices leave other people utterly perplexed too. I may not understand it, but I do accept it  :salute:

However, watching those clips does make me wonder whether they see the issues I see in some way and just skip over them, or if they are genuinely not even minor issues for them at all. I do hope they genuinely have no issues with it, and aren't just tempering their views to oppease viewers

Agree on those you tube  reviews to be just surface-scratching and not much more. There are still many issues with this tool which is also evident by some of the heavier or professional users of MTs out there who posted their reviews under Signal product page on Leatherman website.

Most others will never push the tool too far and too hard, those will be the folk who will give it 4 and 5 stars.

EDC and OCD. A wicked mix.

I personally find the can opener the best I have used, when compared to other leatherman, Gerber's, and victorinox. I have not really used it in the past. After trying the signals and loving it, I started using all the other ones and the signal won by a landslide in ease of use, time to open, and overall cut of the can.

I finally got to handle one.  It was nice in hand and seemed decent. Is the idea that this tool was/is marketed as SURVIVAL still that off putting?  What if it were marketed as a camping tool, car camping tool, glamping tool, day hike tool, etc?  I'm not entirely hating on this tool.

Not seen or handled a Signal, BUT I have seen and handled similar problems on other LM tools, which the signal seems to replicate, or even make worse.

Quick summary off the top (I might forget some stuff):

Overly splayed handles
Impeded main gripping area
"Fat" awl, not a slow taper
Driver only usable in open position
Can opener only usable in open position
Awl function reduced even further in closed position
Ferro rod on whistle (mouth contact with dust/residue, not just from use but potential degredation in storage depending on type of rod)
Caribiner "pinching" the hand when tool is in closed position as demonstrated by a member here
Design of cast hammer with thin sectional areas

I think that's most of it  The other stuff would probably just be "personal preference" incidental stuff like wanting scissors. I really don't think handling the tool would have much bearing on my views with these observations

Oh, there is the handles having the removable bits potentially affecting comfort of using the tool, but that IS something I would only know if I handled it  :salute:

Oh (again) there's the whole pliers poking out the side when you try to close the tool after taking the whistle/ferro rod out. That's just sloppiness though, and not a critical functional thing or major ergos of use thing.

Summary :
Knife is good, but with an odd angle grind to give clearance for the awl. I am cool with that.
Saw is standard LM saw, but pinky might silde into cararbiner during usage.
Pliers head is good, but handles spread wider than other LM tools. ( to give clearence for the handle mount gadgets)
Can opener, standard stuff.
Awl is blunt and dull
Drivers, standard bit holder, good but you can not use it with the tool closed, because the hammer is blocking it. So you have use it with the handles extended in 180* like you would on Skeletool. However Skeletool uses back springs to click the handles in position, not so on Signal. The fire starter handle is sloppy, making it diffcult to use the driver.
Hammer, cararbiner, bottle opener, bit driver are all good.
Sharpener is so short, not sure how well it can do its job. Carrying a diamond file from Surge is a much better option.

Anyway, it feels like you pay more to get less when comparing to Wave.

Not a big deal to me. Without the fire starter you can still force the tool close, just with more force. Get your hand out of the way and it would be fine.

It is less comfortable without the gadgets, but only slighty.
