Day 17-

This is the laziest week I've had all year. Getting a bit antsy in fact.

NICE!   :gimme:   Where did you find the older blunt nose head?

Got them both off ebay. I actually bought them for parts, because they both have a broken implement and I want to mod my other tools. I have a Pro Scout coming in the mail too, so I'm thinking I'll swap out the combo blade on that one for a serrated blade, then put BN pliers on it. And I'm going to see if the file off a 600 will fit in the spot where the 400's blade is so I can have a bladeless tool. It looks like the file "tang" is thinner than the blade, but I'm hoping an extra washer or two can make it work.

Of course I can't do anything until the spanner I ordered arrives.

You don't have to wait, just use pliers on the donor handle then use the handle as the spanner.

The MP400 is set up slightly different to the MP600, I'm sure you'll see what I meant when you play with it.

By the way, I have had almost no luck using pliers to do the job. I've gotten the screw to turn a couple mm, but most I've just damaged it.

Heat it up with a lighter to break the loctite...   ;)

Actually, I had been doing that. But I think it wasn't getting heated enough since I was afraid of damaging the darn plastic lock release, because I really blasted it with the lighter and it finally came loose  :woohoo:

Thanks for the tip about using the handle as a spanner though, I see what you mean and that is just crazy helpful.

You can pop the springs off the plastic bits too, makes it a little easier to keep them out of the way.   :tu:

Day 24-

Merry Christmas MTO!  :cheers:

I expect a lot of us will put our Surges to work the next couple days opening gifts and preparing food  :drool:

I'm the guy in my family people usually turn to for a knife, so mine is likely to get passed around a bit.

For my pic today, here's a shot of the Surge with my walking stick;

Merry Christmas (again)!

Long day, but I managed to grab a shot of the Surge with some of my gifts.
Not the laptop though, that was a gift I bought for someone else.

Day 27-

We're in the home stretch now!

Today I made an attempt at modding my Pro Scout;

I had also planned to use the NN pliers that came with it to build another MP600 from the remaining parts, but they're quite stiff. I'm going to try a few things to loosen them up, but oil and quite a bit of opening and closing have only had a very limited effect.
