Not really a shop project, more like project: shop

It's taken me a couple of months to get to this stage, but having taken another carload of junk to the tip and shifted all of the firewood up into the cellar I can finally move around in the workshop.  I'm not sure what the final arrangement is going to be, but I'll probably end up with one clean bench for assembly and measurement work and one dirty bench for drilling and grinding.  The grey bench to the left I liberated from work.  The brown one at the far end was going to be thrown out by my son's school - it's a 2.5m x 0.8m piece of particleboard desktop on some old kitchen cabinets.  There are two 1.2m LED ceiling lights, and a 100W-equivalent spot light over each bench.

Not sure what the next step is - sort the storage properly, and get some floor tiles down, probably.

Very nice Chris, the only thing I can think of to add which will make life a lot more comfortable is a daylight lamp for working on things.  like this one https://www.cousinsuk.com/product/tube-bench-lights-daylight

Good idea both, thanks.  The anglepoise spots both have 6500K 1500lm daylight LEDs in, and the strips are 4000K 2000lm cool white, so it should be an OK place to work.  I've not been down there in the dark yet though.

That’s one reason I love that arch, it’s such a good cool clear white, but being that arch there’s no shadows.

So I have been thinking about your workshop   :ahhh

Two bits of advice I would give is paint all the walls/ceiling white before you get it all sorted (something I didn't do and regret now  :( )
And get yourself an offcut of thick carpet to stand on in front of the bench,
It will make it less tiring to work on and protect any stuff when it falls on the floor  :salute:

Oooh, Tiles! You need to get some big ol ceramic tiles   :ahhh

Yeah, definitely want to paint the walls - unfortunately the roof needs to come off at some point (leaky asbestos!) so I’ll do it after that gets done.

Good idea about the floor tiles - do you know where I might get some?  :pok:

Wanted to make a rack to hold the ones I use the most
old pine shelves (ply would have been a better choice of materials  ::) )

Not much of a work in progress picture

Loaded, might need some adjusting and I just need to find a permanent place for it now

Nice Tony, but why do I have the feeling you need to be able to flip it up out of way

Nice Tony, but why do I have the feeling you need to be able to flip it up out of way

I can still open the drawers as it is, poor picture angle
But it's only held on by the clamp top left of the picture while I'm still working out if it's practical at the moment
it could also screw in to the roof if I can find a suitable space

 ;)

Nice rack, Tony  :tu:

I agree about the ply board, hope this holds up or at least can be used as a template for a rack enhancement operation

Yep the fingers are a bit weak, it wasn't too bad until I cut  in the slots  ::)
Really it was just an excuse to try out my new pocket hole jig that I bought for a future project

I did have the same kind of thing for my drills JR, it worked well but I had to take it down as I needed the space for shelves (that one was made from ply)  :tu:

Everyone has that similar setup for their drills, like how many drills do they need? All these pics I’ve seen there’s like 6, “all cordless”, like I have 4, a cordless, a corded, a corded 1/2” hammer drill, and one cordless I’ve never used that came in the package deal. So only two of mine would fit, one that I’ve never used..
