That's a good sign.  ::)   :tu:

What's the reason for mixing the linseed oil with white spirit? Just thins it down?

Yes I thin it down so it soaks in well  :tu:

I can't eat linseed-flavoured food like bread because it reminds me of oiling cricket bats!

+1  I know of someone around here who had been oiling tool handles and the rags ignited. She lost her house and everything inside.

Yeah.... she grows lots of veges and delivers and sells them to people. It was garden tools she was working on.
I haven't met her myself but apparently she just shrugged her shoulders and started again.

I managed to start on a sawhorse in the weekend and I am halfway through. Quite enjoying it...
I don't have a workshop so was working out on the deck. Unfortunately it is dark when I leave work so I'm not sure when I can continue. :td:

I made a bike rack for the boys' bikes at the weekend from scrap timber lying around in the garage.  I'm a long way out of practice, and it's very rough but it'll do for now.  Got the chance to use my shiny new combi drill though.

I now need to charge my drill battery before I use it if it has been more than a few days.

One thing I don't like about the Shopdog is how the top rail must be separate because of the way the legs cross.

This is what I came up with.... a prototype made from old pallets:

First I needed the tops of the legs cut to 20° in this shape:

All under the watchful  eye of my Supervisor:

Next time I will try a more accurate method of cutting.

I chose these hinges because I thought their length down the legs would be good. In hindsight their pin is very short and I think butt hinges (like for doors) would have been better.:

Getting there....

Now to cut the legs down:

I thought about housing the leg braces in but it became too much of a faff with my limited tools:

So I only did one side.

Not quite finished but it will do for now:

The plan is to make some sort of brace to stop the legs from spreading although it doesn't really need it.

One side housed, the other not  :-[ :

The top rail is only screwed to the legs on one side:

Uh oh, she found me...  :ahhh

Looks good, are you going to run a chain at the bottom?

Maybe chain or rope, but I would prefer something rigid like a wooden or metal brace so that it keeps it's shape if you want to quickly move it.

Well if your want to go solid how about taking a piece of plywood, hing on one side then run two strips on the other side so when it drops down that cross piece fits in between? This way when open it will also give a platform to store stuff on too?

I've thought about something like that, not sure if I want to store stuff there as it means I have to bend down to get it.  ;)

The two strips is a good idea...  :tu:

True, but the shelf would be like 8” above ground so it would be better then reaching to the floor.

I made a rainstick, not the real thing but the pringles version. I think I need to double down on the three runs of nails I put in cause it only lasts about 2sec if lucky. I’d so love to get the real thing though, I could just sit there for an hour with one, I did when I was at my grandparents back in the day..
