Wal-Mart/Tractor Supply
on: December 06, 2015, 01:41:13 AM
Hit both places today just browsing. Both had some reasonably good deal on folders assuming for Christmas. Ended up picking up a Kershaw "Starter" pack with two Speedsafe assisted open folders on in 4CR one in 3CR at Wal-Mart. One I'm keeping as I don't yet have an assisted opener, the other was a gift for my roommate who I gave it to today. Not great, but two for 19 bucks is pretty cheap. The one I kept is a frame lock with stone washed finish. It's nice and heavy and feels very solid.

Tractor Supply had an entire shelf of knives on sale. Old Timer sharpfingers for 6 bucks, Buck sets for 11 bucks. I'm sure nothing special, but decent gift stuff I'd say. Some Cresent tools on sale too, almost bought another ratchet.

I stopped by Walmart tonight and they are still in Stock. Same Price. Not bad at all!

I saw that set posted somewhere, I think one of them is called "starter" the other may be "manifold"? I remember these were like $10/per knife for these lower end blackwash on amazon black friday. Don't judge kershaw by these, I have quite a few other models, but passed on these cause I read they were heavy.

there was a really good deal on "blur" for $30 on woot yesterday, but I have 2 already and way too many overall so I passed, but itts an awesome knife

My pack was actually neither. One knife was similar to the manifold, but definitely different all together. The other was a FRN(or g10 maybe?) scaled deal with a tanto I think. Neither are on their website, I checked. The all metal one which I kept is 4cr, the other is 3cr.

For what it's worth, the knife I kept seems to me to be 110% worth the price of entry, if not more. The assisted opening springs it into place with a reassuring thwak, lock engages solidly every time without fail, heck I even like the extra weight. I'm not saying it's as good as the real Kershaws, just that they did a damn fine job making a cheap quality knife. Edge retention hasn't been horrible either.

Wife got me a Leek for Christmas and I like it very much. The speed safe opening is fun to play with and I really like the wharnecliff like blade shape.
