Look at the handles :dd: NO WRITING on either side :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh This means it is a very early one 8)

Once in a while you find good deals on eBay, maybe sellers don't know what they have ::) I can believe I got this BO for $40 complete with the sheath  I posted pic of it not to long ago.

My understanding is that the
"cleanskin" minis were the first version, followed by the
"US Pat Pend" version, then came the
"US PAT 4744272" without date codes, then came
"US PAT 4744272" with date codes (earliest date I have is 0395, latest is 0699), the last version had
"TOOL" on the pliers (I have 0102 and 0404).

Almost all the earlier ones had "USA" on the piers.  I suspect that LM produced a small quantity of mini/PST pliers without "USA" in the early days for some reason (before the infamous "not made in the US court case) and just used them up  (they are definitely not the more angular Japanese pliers)

There were some transitional minis that had "US Pat Pend" on one handle and "US PAT 4744272" (no date codes) on the other handle (just to confuse us poor collectors).

There are pictures around of a Japanese Mini, but I don't know of anyone who has ever seen one in the metal.

The cleanskins were often etched with promo brand names etc. on the handles, but Hoffritz seemed to prefer to etch their brand on the knife blade rather than on the handle.  I have a cleanskin and a transitional mini with Hoffritz on the blade.

So....

How angry would you guys be if I super modded a mini to rock a full internal set of tools? I just hate what I am going to have to do to these pliers to make it work...

Not at all, your tool, you do whatever you like.  It's not like it is an irreplaceable rarity or anything.   :tu:

Please show us what you end up with (and how you got there).

Blunt nosed Mini   :dunno:

I am really hoping I can leave it as is, but yes I may make it a blunt nosed mini.

I want to fit the bit exchanger there at the very least.

Cheers,
HG

I think you will find that there is no room for a bit exchanger
