Recently bought a batch of 5 PSTs from eBay. One of it was badly damaged on the handle. It's a rather early version cos there's no date code. Everything was good other than the handle. Occasionally, I do buy beat up tools to "restore".. This wasn't an intended piece though.. The result after about 2 hours of elbow grease, sandpaper, sore fingers and thumb.. Have faith, these are built like a tank. Further work needs to be done, as well as on the inside.. Rather rusted.

I truly believe they can even last a lifetime if they are taken care of properly. So many of them are still in good shape and working flawlessly even after 20 odd years.

Anyway.. Picture time!

I think I may be eligible to join this club now...

I picked up an old broken PST at the weekend. I stripped it down, re-shaped the blade (which was missing its point), cleaned it all up etc... and I think it's turned out rather well.

Cheers!, It's a lovely little blade now actually. The photo doesn't do it justice, i'll maybe try and take some "artistic" shots of it later.

I don't know if this is appropriate for this thread, but anyway...

I absolutely love my new PST - it is by far my favourate Leatherman now - there's a quality about it, that's quite difficult for me to articulate, that just gives me the buzz i used to get with pocket tools twenty-odd years ago.

However the phillips on mine, although it looks lovely and all that, is just not going to hack it with what i do on a daily basis and sooner or later's going to get rounded off - i need a driver that can do number twos!

It's a beautiful Saturday morning here, I've done everything i need to do, everyone's out of my hair etc and ive got a bit of time to myself. So... this mornings tinkering project - swap the philips on my PST for the one from my old Wave...

Not to talk you out of a mod but if you were to get a newer PST it would have the same Phillips as the OG Wave.

I just used the PST II as an example the newer PST came with the same Phillips. The head size on the Phillips is I believe the same on the old style verses the new style.

Thanks Steve,

That is true. However i really like the age of this PST for aesthetic reasons and i had to modify the blade anyway as it was broken, so it's already embarked on its modness. I also quite like the idea of again using the driver from my old wave. The Wave's retired and sits on a book shelf - it wont mind having its driver downgraded temporary... unti, that is, i find another off-set driver i can swap back into it.

Also, i'm in the UK and it's blooody difficult to aquire  vintage multitools here.

Yes, i did think about a saw, but the file is so lovely on it... Maybe i'll try and track down another that needs a bit of restoration and mod with a saw... and a spearpoint blade - i do like a spearpoint blade!

I've a really loose '99 vintage that I just might have a go on!  I've always liked how carry friendly the PST is.  It's a hikers dream.
