How much does your MT actually weigh compared to manufacturer claims?

I took my DSLR and digital scale to weigh some of my MTs.  Needless to say my wife couldn't understand why I would want to do this, but hopefully some of you will find it interesting :)

Leatherman Wave

Manufacturer's claimed weight: 8.5 ounces / 241 grams

Weight on my scale: 8.4 oz

---------------------------------------------------------------

Leatherman Pulse

Manufacturer's claimed weight: 6 ounces / 170 grams

Weight on my scale: 5.6 oz

---------------------------------------------------------------

Leatherman Juice S2

Manufacturer's claimed weight: 4.4 ounces / 125 grams

Weight on my scale: 4.2 oz

---------------------------------------------------------------

Leatherman Juice SC2

Could not find manufacturer's claimed weight, but 2 retailing websites describe it as 5 oz

Weight on my scale: 4.5 oz

---------------------------------------------------------------

Leatherman Juice CS4

Manufacturer's claimed weight: 5.5 ounces / 156 grams

Weight on my scale: 5.4 oz

---------------------------------------------------------------

Leatherman Skeletool (stainless steel)

Manufacturer's claimed weight: 5 ounces / 142 grams

Weight on my scale: 5.1 oz

---------------------------------------------------------------

Leatherman Skeletool CX

Manufacturer's claimed weight: 5 ounces / 142 grams

Weight on my scale: 4.8 oz

---------------------------------------------------------------

Leatherman Mini

Manufacturer's claimed weight: 4 ounces / 114 grams

Weight on my scale: 4.0 oz

---------------------------------------------------------------

Victorinox Spirit

Manufacturer's claimed weight: 5.75 oz

Weight on my scale: 7.3 oz

---------------------------------------------------------------

Victorinox Swiss Champ

Could not find manufacturer's claimed weight

Weight on my scale: 6.6 oz

I hope some of you found this interesting.  I certainly was surprised that the Skeletool CX does weigh a little less than the stainless steel version.  I was also surprised by how much more the Spirit weighs when compared to Vic's claimed weight.

I was also surprised by how the Champ weighs 6.6 oz!

Good job, ultimaonliner!

There's a page listing multi weights somwhere on MTO, but I'm not sure how trustworthy it is.  Nothing's as trustworthy as checking them out with your own scale.

About as trustworthy as a Canadian with a flashlight.

I enjoy this evidence of foul play by Team Swiss (they'll try to tell us the mountain altitudes affect gravity)

Huh, so the carbon fiber does save some weight on the CX.

Comparative Weight Chart

I have personally weighed each of the tools listed, and I also thought it was odd that they didn't correspond to the manufacturer's numbers, but I just chalked it up to the marketing departments having a little too much wobbly juice at lunch!  :D

Very good thread  :salute:

Possibly since most of the weights are close (except for he Spirit :o ::) ) the manufacturing weight is what they try to get but they have a few ounce give or take standard

just a thought though  ;) :D
