Gerber StrongArm?
on: January 23, 2016, 06:42:13 AM
Last year we where all excited about the new StrongArm presented at SHOT 2015, but did anyone here actually get one?
I was very exited, but they took a long time to become available internationally.
Has anyone tried one?

They look awesome enough but wish they were in an upgraded steel. How is the heat treat on gerber 420HC?

I dont know.
If I remember correctly they chose 420HC because its easy to sharpen in the field.

It's been reviewed by many many Youtubers and I think it has received universal praise as a great and very strong all-rounder. I want one, but I can't justify it as long as I still own a Prodigy. Anyhow, at this point I would say that it's a very safe purchase.

I have prodigy as well, but Im not a fan of the serrations.
If I ever got a strongarm Im unsure how much use it would actually get. I have so many traditional knives Id rather use.

Seems like a good more inexpensive option. Looks a bit too tacticool for my taste

That is the issue. It does look a bit tactical.

Looks great but doesn't fill a niche for me as I already have Carbon V SRK's,

I'm waiting for the Mora Garberg.......

I probably should save for that one instead. But if the Garberg with leather sheath actually costs $110 I could get both a Gerber StrongArm and a Condor  Swamp Romper for the same money...

The Strongarm does look a nice knife, but I don't have a role for it that isn't already taken by something perfectly capable.

Nobody sells at retail on the net and when the shine is off, the price comes down. I'm thinking it will settle in around the $65-70 range. The Mora has the fine Sandvik steel as well.   8)  Plus the Garberg looks "bushcrafty"....not like you're forward scouting the AO for a sniper hide.  :D

Hopefully it will.
And I agree that bushcrafty is better than tactical. I have a small hope it will be cheaper here.

My wife asked me if I wanted to go to the Byonce concert... but for the price of a ticket I could buy 1.5 Gerber StrongArms (they are about 80$ here)

Sadly, while looking for the StrongArm I stumbled upon something called Fällknive A1 and worse Fällknive A1 Pro :ahhh

I'm still using my Prodigy on a regular basis and I see no need to replace it. So no Strongarm for me yet. I want one, I just can't justify it, that's all. And on top of that, if I were to get a Strongarm, I'd have to get myself a kydex sheath for it as well because it's probably a knife I'd want to keep for a long time.

Doesn't the A1 cost more than twice what the Strongarm does?  More than a ticket to see Byonce even! :ahhh

A1 runs at about 2.5 Byonce tickets, the A1 pro at about 3.5 :P, they hopefully last longer though...
