has anyone else had a SwissCard crack apart
on: January 19, 2016, 02:50:59 AM
The title says it all. I checked my wallet stuff   and found my Quatro had developed a bunch of cracks in it around the slot for the knife.

Do you carry your wallet in your back pocket?  These have been the only instances in which they (SwissCards)break.

I carry mine (in my wallet) in my front pocket and it hasn't broken.   Mine's old enough as to where it has a door on the scissor slot.

You know, you'd think they'd make the things out of a stronger plastic--like polycarbonate

I agree, considering the price.

Here, they are dirt-cheap. Unless they move production to another country that is economically not feasible.

It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Mine's breaking apart too, not as badly as yours it seems but the connection points are failing and the pin-hole has lost most of its retention. I'm waiting for a "titanium" toothpick/large sewing needle from china before making a scale swap (wooden toolslots between brass sheet is the plan (with rubber to increase tool retention)).

yes it is a back pocket carry

But FortyTwo's idea sounds interesting

since mine is only cracking on the back panel and the glued seams are popping perhaps if I make a brass back plate and re laminate the whole thing....
I need to look into this idea and maybe finish splitting it apart to see what I am dealing with as far as internal shapes
I guess I'll try and if it works I will post it and if it doesn't it doesnt

I'll post a build-thread once the toothpick is is.

I wonder if the warranty applies to Swisscards?

It's worth mentioning that the 2015 product catalogue has the cards sans tool (or the tools separately) as spare parts.

I thought the Nail Care version would be a good security area option, but no! The file is glass and broke in half in my wallet, now half of it is stuck inside and the other half is just dangerous.

The plastic itself is in good condition, but removing the other half of the file will mean complete destruction...  :-\

That's ridiculous! I would have though they knew people have wallets in back pockets and sit on them. They must have gotten more than enough feedback about broken scales to realise that any glass needs to be really shatterproof.

Back pocket wallet carry is insane = Back pains and illness

Perhaps people must learn to front pocket carry (make your wallet lighter and thinner, send to trash all the inncessary stuff)...

My ones have survived the front pocket wallet carry.
I like thinner wallets but there are times when it is super useful and worth giving up the space.
Nailcare version rules.
