Gerber? Gerber? Bueller?
on: January 22, 2007, 04:20:38 AM
Hello all, just found your site and was wondering  where is the Gerber forum?

I use the hell out of mine...started using one in Boy Scouts and still keep it handy to this day.

Welcome to the Forum Pacu.  As yet there really isn't enough traffic to warrant a seperate Gerber forum, however that could easily change with more and more members like yourself joiining up.

What model(s) do you use, and what do you like about them?  I have a few myself, as do most folks here.

My favorite is the Gerber Fisherman...always good for those pesky Crappie swallowing the hook. (long needlenose pliers).  To offset that rust problem i had a friend who works in the Gulf marine coat it for salt water fishing.

My old standby is the Gerber 600 series .

Welcome to yet another Gerber user  ;)
Use this forum and the review forum till they get a Gerber one going, also just jump in any of the forums that you can give an answer to using your experience with your Gerbers.
If you can get details of the coating that was put on your Fisherman would be a good start. All steel rusts eventual it isnt called stainless because they could not spell rustles.  :-\
To some of the members on here Gerber is a dirty word because most of there new tools are Chinese made, there experience of Chinese copies has clouded there view so they are of the opinion that all goods from there are rubbish. They forget that the Gerbers are American designed and tested. We in the UK are used to foreign goods after all, all multitools on the market are from foreigners and since M Thatcher destroyed the British Steel industry, all steel is as well.
I wanted one hand operation and Gerber is the only tool I have handled that delivers that.

I believe the stuff my friend used to marine coat my Gerber was called Rust Bullet.

I want to try out the SwissTool in the very near future. Wish Klein (electrical tools) would come out with a multitool with some handy electricians pieces built into it.

Have you seen the Paladin Tool series?

http://multitool.org/content/view/63/

They are supposed to be designed for electricians, linesmen and other random technicians.

Now THAT is what i need. I do a bit of work with Best Buy hooking up the electronics and patch panels (troubleshooting). The punchdown on those tools would be the handiest feature for networking.

Thanks!
