Shortly after I was hurt I got a message from JZMTL saying he wanted to send me something to cheer me up.  I gave him my address, then promptly forgot all about it with all of the other things I had going on.  Then yesterday I got another message from him asking if the package had arrived- well, it probably had, I just haven't been to check the mail in a while since I can't drive.  This morning I suckere... uh, got a friend to drive me to pick up the mail and there was a long box from someone in Montreal....

When I got home I opened it up and found this:



A Crosman 781, the gun I grew up with!



Now admittedly the one I grew up with was much older than this one, but essentially it's the same gun, and I really can't express how happy I am to have this gun.  It's a great gift from a great friend, and I am looking forward to moving to Ottawa, where, hopefully Jie and I will be able to get together and shoot some!



As you can see, this one has a nice fiber optic sight, while my old one (my father's old one I should say) is just plain iron sights.  This looks WAY cooler!  :D



This one also has a five round clip for pellets, which is something I had in an M-16 version of this gun a while back, and really liked.  All in all I'm not sure how useful it is since you need to take the gun off target to pump it repeatedly anyway, but it's still nice to have.  I grew up loading one pellet at a time... like a caveman....  :ahhh



And, at the risk of getting Jie in trouble for mailing a loaded weapon :P, this one may or may not have arrived with a full load of BB's in the hopper! 

I owe a HUGE thanks to Jie for this gun.  Not only is it a fun toy in it's own right, but it also reminds me of the days when I used to stea... uhhh... borrow my father's gun, without his permission or knowledge and shoot anything I could find.

When I was about 13, my brother and I used to take the gun into the back storage room in our basement (was actually a bathroom that was never finished) and shoot GI Joe men (and anything else we could find) out the window and into the shed that was built onto the house under the deck.  Between ricochets and bad aim (plus a number of other stupid things, like attempts at trick shooting!) the window frame got all chewed up as well as whatever toys we decided we needed to kill.  My parents noticed the vinyl window frames were chipped and broken, but never knew why until I visited them in the fall and told them what happened while we were all in their back yard shooting water bottles.

I did shoot the old gun while I was there, Dad shot his old .22 but refused to take it back after I could see how much he enjoyed and missed it.... Megan was off to the side shooting her bow, and even Mom was out shooting the old Crosman, an ancient break barrel and the odd pistol. 

I have such pleasant memories of this particular model, and I'm very happy to finally have one of my own.  Since I visited my parents in September they have been shooting quite a bit, and they have both invested in new rifles and pistols- seems I reminded them just how much fun it is, and it makes me happy to think of them stepping out the back door every morning and target shooting over coffee.

Thanks Jie- this isn't just a cool gift, it's a great reminder of things that make me very happy.

It's a dinky little peashooter that spit out BB at a bit more than 300 fps, but single pump so easy to pump out a lot of BB. Now don't blame me if you shoot your windows out again.  :P

I shot ornaments out of a tree last year.... I wanted to again this year, but reality got in the way.
