Sheath for Swisstool plus Bits
on: February 01, 2016, 12:00:04 PM
When I got my Swisstool with the bit set, I instantly disliked the construction of the pouch. Not just because of the velcro closure (which I hate), I also disliked the "stacking" very much, which made it bulky. I really prefer the items to be side by side than stacked over each other.

While looking for solutions (including storing the ratchet/extension and corkscrew safely), I came across this:

It is a Bianchi pistol magazine pouch (size 3, Glock 17) which I took from my Holser Combo. It is like it was made for the Swisstool plus one set of Bits and Screwdriver/Extension. You can also squeeze in the ratchet in addition but that's about it.

I like that pouch setup. :tu:

I have the same complaint with the stacking of the original pouch as well. My solution is to use 2 pouches sized for the tool only and run them side by each on the belt. Much slimmer and it feels lighter.

I thought about that too, but didn't like the idea of single pouches. Meanwhile I upgraded to a second bit set so this solution does not work anymore. Currently I am again with a bulky solution (Maxpedition M2 waistpack with other things), so I am thinking of getting something custom made. Something wearable on a beld and on a molle platform.

Nice, I almost bought one similar, cause I edc a custom sak, and mini normally a flashlight, and I saw this setup, yet I made a leather one instead, even more like yours.

I really like the leather one. The nylone design with the buckles is awful, I tried something similar and was not satisfied.
What I thought about is making a nylond/corura pouch with inserts (like in my post above) but also with dedicated slots for the extension, corkscrew etc. and a second compartment for two bit holders.

I use a Skinth. Since that photo I replaced the Leatherman bits with proper hex ones, but not the original.

Oh, that's an awful lot of bits there :P
What pouch do you carry it in? Looks like some British/Commonwealth pouch.

I wonder, have you ever had issues with the skinth and smaller pieces (especially on the side, like the bit extension) falling out?
