I looked at those CRKT Rugers, and there are some pretty nice looking models. To bad they all have blades that are over 3 inches.

I think the steel is 8cr13TofuMov,I have to sharpen it everyday even after only light Use.  did I get a lemon??

My other 8cr13mov knives don't have this issue.

That sounds strange. Even cheap junk knives usually keeps the edge for a day of light use. I think you should contact CRKT about it.

My CRKT Minimalist's 8Cr13MoV is a really soft steel. I have to sharpen it twice every week or so.

They are used for food prep and cutting tape/cardboard/boxes and the occasional pencil sharpening session.

The great thing about its softness is I can sharpen them on my coffee mug every morning, or any ceramic I find on the street or virtually anywhere.

Soft, but I like its ease of sharpening.

And I always have the MT blade as a backup if it ever gets dull to the point of not cutting anything cleanly...

It's also soft steel, specially the Gerber MP series and the Leatherman knife blades...

But I never need long term edge retention and supersteels on my daily life, realistically speaking. YMMV

My toys:

MTs: Surge (2x), Skeletool CX, Rebar, Blast, Fuse, Micra, Squirt (3x), Wave, Crunch, Mini, Spirit (2x), Pro Scout, MP700 (2x), Diesel, Powerlock, PowerPlier (2x), PocketPowerPlier, Blacktip , ST6 (2x), 5WR, A100

SAKs: Bantam, Executive, Ambassador, Minichamp, Classic Alox, Champion, Farmer, Explorer, Swisschamp, Golf Tool, Wenger Champ, EVO 52, Pocket Tool Chest

How does CRKT steel comparing to Kershaw's? I never have trouble with Kershaw's or others AUS8 until now.
I am taking that knife back for an exchange tomorrow

This morning, I made my 1st CRKT razor sharp which was really easy to do, then sliced up a pizza on a cardboard box for lunch, I looked at the edge afterward, a white line is already visible.

WTF. Bye bye CRKT, I returned that thing.

Which one? ok, i read few posts above, so now i know

i've mixed experiences with my CRKTs,
- Slip K.I.S.S. and Edgie don't hold their edge sharp for long..
- (i didn't used my P.E.C.K enough to have an opinion)
- But my two Rollock2, my Swindle and my -now broken, my fault- GlideLock hold their edge quite nicely and are really sharp for a long while.

PS: I never could get a decent edge on my Kershaw Vapor and OD2, but my Scallion is always a freaking razor

Edgie and Kiss are made inferior, 3CR and 420J2 steel are not blade materials in my eyes.
Unfortunately a lot of "budget" CRKT's are made in this as well as AUS6 (SAK type level of occasional use blade steel; An oh look they have added a cheap blade to this tool level, 420HC etc).

AUS8 and 8Cr13MoV are great steels that deliver a base level of performance with ease of maintenance.
AUS8 has been around forever and makers should have the heat treatment down these days.
Differences in heat treatment are usually not so noticeable between vendors (in my opinion); grinds and edge angles can have more effect on the edge retention than one or two points variation on Rockwell Hardness.
Unless you get a real dud. Most knife users can tell the difference between 420J2 and AUS8. If yours is acting like the former then you have a dud.

This is about showing them...

This is the Ritter Mk6, great little fixed blade in 8Cr13MoV but I am still trying to find its application in my world. Steel and size upgrade from the Mk5.
Its a mini survival knife but when I am outdoors I usually have something more substantial.

Maybe as part of a "get home bag" it provides a totally reliable knife for basic tasks; it is built tough and will take a fair share of abuse in a no nonsense manner.

My CRKT Minimalist's 8Cr13MoV is a really soft steel. I have to sharpen it twice every week or so.

Unfortunately these are made in 5Cr13MoV ; in the same class as the SAK and Multitool second thoughts (0.5% Carbon) so it makes perfect sense.

Yup, but easy as hell to sharpen

Stan the man from Sharp Edge has worked with CRKT to bring out a couple of Biltong specific little folders.
I wish him nothing but great things as he is the Victorinox distributor who looks after us down here.

The 5 color Solos were done for the demand for a simple biltong cutter and the two new CRKTs look awesome for this task too.

The CRKT Biltong and Bokkie are hollow ground 8Cr13MoV G10 lockbacks with black or tan G10 scales.
Nail nicks and no clips make for cool little traditional pocket knives. The Biltong is the sheepsfoot and the Bokkie is the clip point.

Being launched at Huntex in a few weeks.
I can see them pumping these out the door at the biggest hunting show in the country.
I want one.

Latest CRKT is the Pazoda.  I've been pairing this with the Victorinox Spirit and I have to say it is an ideal combo.
