Any Flash 1 owners out there ?
on: February 08, 2016, 09:42:10 PM
I'm thinking of purchasing my first SOG , The Flash 1 is my first choice. After some research and a few you tube video's I'm not so sure. Are there any complaints or positives ? I do see that the lock mechanism can be very noisy. Feedback would be much appreciated. :salute:

I have one. Its very small. The lock can rattle. You can either remove the lock or glue it open if you like. I would say its not a very "strong" knife in my opinion, but if you just use it for everyday cutting task you should be good. If you want pics compared to anything let me know.

I own 2x of them, of course.   :salute:

Upside:  super light weight, deep clip, fun as heck to flick open all day, not overly spendy, and though small is plenty adequate for 99% of what most of us need in a knife.

Downside:  SOG assisted opening blades almost always have some inherent blade play, and the Flash 1 is no different.  Being plasticky and light weight, combined with the blade play, it almost seems like a toy knife or something that would be given away at a trade show.

But I like them quite a bit, and am of the opinion that if you can get past the blade play, then there is no reason not to try one out.

A very adequate urban survival package under 16 ounces.

Blade play is one of my pet peeve's , maybe this is not the model for me. If SOG has blade play on their assisted's maybe I'll pass. I just had a good deal on one and figured I would try one.

Are you looking just into SOG or would you want something the same size form a different company?

Yeah, this knife is not for you if blade play bugs you.  You might be able to adjust a little of the play out of it, but I doubt that you would ever get solid lockup.

Oh well, that just leaves more of them for the rest of us.

No , I have never owned a SOG before and thought I would add to my collection

That and the assisted opening may be affected negatively if you do so.
