Gil Hibben had a stroke
on: March 18, 2016, 02:06:39 PM
I just found out on FB that knife designer Gil Hibben has suffered a stroke.  I can't imagine anyone here is not familiar with his designs, his knife throwing or his books about knives, but in case such a person exists, Gil has designed knives and swords for movies, TV shows, for throwing, fighting and pretty well any other purpose.

Most notable are the annual designs he did with United Cutlery including the Shadow, Double Shadow, Hornet and Dragonlord and the knife used by Sylvester Stallone in the third Rambo movie- the first Rambo knife without a hollow handle.  For the younger crowd, the large bowie knife Stallone uses in the Expendables movies is also a Hibben.

If you have any ability to send any sort of healing energy his way, please do so.  I sincerely hope he is ok, and I imagine we would all like to see him recover fully and quickly.

That's so sad, I hope and pray we don't lose another. Warren Osborne was hard enough to lose.

Last year was Kit Carson and Ed Halligan from CRKT.  We managed to get some exclusive memorial knives from CRKT, designed by each of them to give away.  I agree- we don't need to lose any more.

Official statement.. Prayers Needed

As some of you may have heard through forms of Social Media... To which we did NOT want not nor wish to happen at this time..

My father Gil Hibben has had a stroke and was admitted to the hospital yesterday. It was NOT a "massive stroke" like is being depicted and aired via the web and word of mouth, but a stroke none the less. He is Coherent and tests are still being done. We do not have a Lot of answers for ourselves at this point let alone for everyone else. Please respect our wishes and let this remain a private family matter as we try walk through this along side him. We will keep everyone updated on his progress as we learn and find out more... That being said. PLEASE Do NOT Overwhelm my mother with phone calls or messages at this time. If you feel the need to contact anyone then reach out to me... she does not need the added stress as she is trying to process what all has happened as well as be there for my father and hold it together. At this point he is doing a little better and we hope to see continued progress as the days go on.. Please understand and Respect our wishes. Things are still running at Hibben Knives and will continue to do so.

Our family would like to thank everyone for their heartfelt wishes, concerns, thoughts, prayers, love, and light we have been receiving at this time.... We ask that you continue to send as much of the above mentioned as possible as he/we could really use it as my father tries to rebound from what has happened. He is the true definition of a warrior and to all who truly know him ... know nothing will hold or keep him down..
Respectfully,
Derek Hibben / Hibben knives

Thankfully it does not sound as bad as it could have been, and I hope he recovers quickly and completely.

Just posted on the Hibben Knives Facebook page:

19 days after his Stroke, Gil is grilling steaks and he did a GREAT job of it!  Though Gil is having difficulty with words, his ability to speak is not effected.   When he cannot get a certain word to come out after trying several times, he laughs and says "I'm going to get this one"!  I know it is frustrating for him but his drive, personality, and positive attitude are making all of the difference in his speech recovery.  Everyday there is a big improvement and the support and prayers from all of you are helping more than you will ever know.  He can't wait to get back in his shop, it may be a little while, but he is determined to make some knives as soon as his Doctor says "OK".  Please keep the love coming his way, it really IS helping in his recovery!!  Linda

Great news indeed!

No worries.   I know there is a lot of respect for the man and his body of work, so I had to share.
