Teaching astronomy (and navigation) with simple tools used for hundreds of years.
Fully functional replica of a medieval German (Augsburg) sundial, a self-made sine quadrant (acrylic glass) to find out the latitude for the sundial to show the accurate time, a modern Silva to check the accuracy of the compass in the sundial, and a trusty 1980s Explorer.
With the sundial and quadrant alone, students can now determine latitude, compass direction, time, and with some added trigonometry, distances and measurements of objects, landmarks, etc.
