Hi folks a bit of a two for one, I only have one 'proper' axe which gets used for all sorts of tasks in the garage and garden. The other axe tool is for roofing, I use it to cut slates, when was younger I served my apprenticeship as a Roof Slater and worked in the building trade for 10 years.
This is the type of slate knife I used, however I loaned it out and it was never returned.
This newer one is more modern and has a couple of added uses, I don't do very much roofing work now days but it's still good to have, I've given it a nice edge but not too sharp.
In order to cut slates you need to lay it on something solid and have an edge overhang then chop it away a little bit at a time. The slate used for today's demo is from Wales has a distinctive purple colour and can sometimes have a green vein running through them.
Hopefully this is enough to gain this award, thanks very much for reading.
Cheers.
