Victorinox Warrenty - swisschamp
on: February 17, 2015, 08:46:58 PM
I have what I think is a swisschamp, I got it as a gift a loooong time ago and for a few years it got used a lot and a little bit abused. The spring on the pliers catches on the tools next to it, and the scales have a large chip missing, i guess it must have been dropped at some stage.
Would these be covered under Victorinoxs warranty ?
Do Victorinox repair items or do they replace with reconditioned items ?
And, how would I even go about getting it sent to Victorinox ?

thanks !

I'm 99% sure Victorinox would fix those issues under warranty for you. However, if the only issues are the scales and the pliers spring, it'd probably be cheaper to just buy replacements off of eBay and fix it yourself. Scales and springs are very easy to replace, and can usually be done for less than shipping the whole knife back to Ibach. As a bonus you get to pick a different scale colour if you like.

Like jazzbass says. There are tutorials to replace scales and scissor springs and its a good learning experience.  For our pleasure you could post before and after pictures. We love pics.

Best of luck.

If there is a Vic Shop anywhere near, they will usually replace scales and springs free on-site if you nicely ask to buy replacement scales.
Soemtimes WMF shops do carry Vic parts, too, but they only sell.

Hi Guys,

ok, *finally* getting around to this - I've found a place that sells scales cheap, and getting a few other bits so shipping is also good - can someone advise me on what size spring to get ? looking on the net there seems to be large and small - i've no idea what the swisschamp uses, I assume small ??? but i want to check.

Also, is there a thread on mto on scale replacement ? Don't go wasting your time looking, just if you know of one. I looked, but couldn't see the wood for the trees :) A quick youtube search will get me what I want to know, I just prefer my info from here.

Don't quote me on this but I'm fairly certain the "small" springs are those for the 58mm and the "large" ones are what you need, as for a topic on scale-changing: Applying new scales.. by: AHB

eamo, if it's ordinary red scales you're after I have an unused set you can have - I took them off my brand new Huntsman at xmas. They have no damage and should fit fine. I could include them in the Ray Mears parcel if you want them.

cheers Luke, the huntsman scales will fit, other then the swisschamp has the pen, as well as tweezers and toothpick - then again, i doubt i ever used the pen, even when I used it everyday - which is how it got damaged, a colleague used it (many years ago) to open a computer cabinet . . . . never lend tools :)
It's only €4 for a new set from commerciol, hang on to them, i guarantee you you'll need them for a project at some stage

but thank you  :tu:  :salute:

Unfortunately this is very often the case - I'm not sure why people who borrow tools seem to think it is OK to abuse and damage something that belongs to someone else (or maybe they simply don't think at all).

so, finally . . . with the help of this thread - http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,12903.0.html

my scales arrived, and though I have much more important things to do, well, this just had to be done . . . .

and finally, got around to replacing the spring on the pliers :)
correct size spring, but the old spring was more "rounded" to fit into the groove on the opposing pliers handle, if that makes sense - but functionally, the mnew spring seems fine :)

:woohoo: :woohoo:
