Spyderco Dragonfly H1 thoughts / help
on: February 15, 2016, 11:35:20 PM
Hi all , Just received an Amazon gift card and was thinking about getting a Dragonfly in H1. I am a marine technician and am around a fresh water lake . My other EDC work knives ( Leek , Scallion , Gerber Paraframe ) have never had any corrosion issues . My question is , is it worth the extra money ? Also I have read that edge retention is an issue , any problems with the single screw pocket clip ? Let me know your opinions. If it comes down to it I really like the non H1 orange handled one. Really wish they had it in blue  :D

VG-10 is pretty corrosion resistant on its own. Even more so if you are only dealing with fresh water.
Absolutely no issues with the securing of the pocket clip across all dragonfly models. The best clip Spyderco make.

I find H1 to be very soft; it almost rolls the edge just by staring at it. If you get the serrated one it seems to protect the edges better, the tips of the serrations seem to not roll and dull as bad.
Being so soft it sharpens up so quickly; if you have a sharp-maker and don't mind touching up a lot then its great.
It even seems to be pushed sharp again as opposed to removing lots of material by grinding.
Just my "feeling" when sharpening and using H1.

Simple advice from me, if you go plain edge get the orange, if serrated get the yellow H1.

If you want one of the ultimate mini (in the know) folders get the ZDP189 BRG model but keep it dry.

Great ! Seeing as I do a LOT of cutting at work I will look at the orange one , I do have a Sharpmaker but don't want to have to be touching it up every day. Wish it came with a combo edge  :)

Honestly I think it would be a bit silly. The DF2 is a teeny-tiny knife. Full serrated has only 4+6 serrations. Half serrated would be half of that  :P

I know I am late to the party but never let that stop me before.

H1 imo should only come SE. Fixes any issues you may have with edge retention.

Like was already said if you are looking for DF 2 PE then ZDP 189 is the stuff. Assuming you don't get lucky and find the magic that is Superblue or can wait for the HAP 40 DF 2 to drop. Hmm HAP 40.

When it comes to H1 it is all about the most excellent SE Pacfic Salt. So good.

I've thought of selling mine many times, but I just can't. I use it just to trim small things, cut fruit etc.around the house but is so darn handy and the grips are so awesome I really love it!

The nice H1 steel can be left with fruit pieces and such or forgotten in the sink and it won't ever rust. That's a great plus for me.

Fits perfectly in the coin pocket, or clipped in any pant/short/pyjamas I wear when doing house work and stuff, and it won't take your clothes down like heavier folders tend to do.

The colour makes it easy to find in the bed (yes, I sleep with a small knife on me every day) if it gets unclipped.

And it comes so darn handy when there's sheeple around and you can't get the big boys out!

My toys:

MTs: Surge (2x), Skeletool CX, Rebar, Blast, Fuse, Micra, Squirt (3x), Wave, Crunch, Mini, Spirit (2x), Pro Scout, MP700 (2x), Diesel, Powerlock, PowerPlier (2x), PocketPowerPlier, Blacktip , ST6 (2x), 5WR, A100

SAKs: Bantam, Executive, Ambassador, Minichamp, Classic Alox, Champion, Farmer, Explorer, Swisschamp, Golf Tool, Wenger Champ, EVO 52, Pocket Tool Chest

H1  Dragonfly II

It was a yellow one , now a blue green  color
I don't know if it shows up well in the picture, but I used blue RIT dye on it
The final color was a pleasant surprise
