Stonehenge DIY. Makes you wanna try, doesn't it?...

Awesome :tu:

I remember reading an article about an Indian temple where they built a hill with a very long ramp (I have 100km in my mind, but I don't remember clearly and I can't find the article right now) to put a super heavy roof on top of it.
Common sense and logic says that 100km is at least an order of magnitude, maybe two or three, too large.  ;)
50m height at 1% is already 5km when pushing a several ton heavy object, you might wanna go less than 1%. Often those temples are not at the bottom of the valley, but on a hill requiring you to overcome more elevation. Factor in, that the temple and the source of the stone might be far apart and the fact that you will need to build a road from the quarry anyway...  In the end, its a matter of definition, is all of it the ramp, or is part of it just a road?

Also, they had time. The region (check out Zofingen on google maps) I live in was famous for tall straight trees. Those trees were used as masts on large ships, so they transported them down the river Aare, then the river Rhine (through Germany) into the north sea. Then on sea around Spain until they were delivered to Italy. Not exactly what you would call the direct way.

It took over 400 years to build Angkor Wat and they built 2000 years on the Great Wall of China :o

Oh and a modern marvel of numbers
The NASA crawler carrier weighs over 2700 tons and can move at 1.6km/h (loaded) or 3.2km/h (empty)... there are two of them and together they journeyed over 5500km :D

Apple isn't a technology company, it's a luxury company.

There's a dark side to  Amazon, Apple, Google and Facebook says NYU professor Scott Galloway.
He calls the companies the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and says they're avoiding taxes and killing jobs.
Galloway dismantles the strategies behind the giants in his new book The Four: The Hidden DNA of Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google.

https://nltimes.nl/2017/12/07/dutch-police-drops-drone-hunting-eagles-project

After more than a year, the Dutch police decided to stop using birds of prey to intercept drones. It turned out that there isn't much demand for drone-intercepting eagles, and training the birds is more expensive and complicated than expected, NOS reports.

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/world/dutch-police-ground-drone-fighting-eagles-9496646

After a series of tests in 2015, the police last year announced they were putting into operation a flock of the birds of prey to take down drones believed to be posing a danger to the public, such as near airports.

But now the feathered force has been grounded, with police realising that demand for their services was not very high, and their upkeep was more expensive than first thought.
Videos of a Dutch police presentation of the birds taking to the air to take down drones by grabbing them with their claws and bringing them to the ground went viral last year.

But in practice, it was found the proud eagles did not always do what they had been trained to do, the Dutch broadcaster NOS said.

Man electrocuted cutting stereo power: https://www.msn.com/en-nz/news/national/man-electrocuted-cutting-stereo-power/ar-BBH2UHf?li=BBqdg4K&ocid=mailsignout

The police report said Mr Smith had gone and removed the power cord from the caravan where the music was playing, while leaving the other end plugged into the campground's power box.

Coroner Debra Bell says, "It then appears Mr Smith has attempted to cut the power cord, using a Leatherman multi-tool... the Leatherman was [found] fused into his hand, along with the half-cut power cord, still connected to the power meter."

? He should have known better. Everyone should know better. Working with electrics requires powering off and using insulated tools. In case of doubt, don´t touch!
