https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-01-28/volkswagen-apologizes-for-testing-of-diesel-fumes-on-monkeys

The controversy over Volkswagen AG’s diesel-emissions cheating took another twist when the carmaker apologized for a test that exposed monkeys to engine fumes to study effects of the exhaust.

The company said the study, conducted by a research and lobby group set up by VW, Daimler AG, BMW AG and Robert Bosch GmbH, was a mistake. The New York Times reported earlier about a 2014 trial in a U.S. laboratory in which 10 monkeys inhaled diesel emissions from a VW Beetle.

The controversy over Volkswagen AG’s diesel-emissions cheating took another twist when the carmaker apologized for a test that exposed monkeys to engine fumes to study effects of the exhaust.

On humans too, apparently.

The research organisation received its funding from German carmakers Volkswagen, Daimler and BMW.

The purpose and outcome of the study remain unclear but revelations about experiments involving people come as the auto industry faces bans of toxic diesel vehicles from inner cities following revelations in 2015 that Volkswagen manipulated emissions on diesel-engined cars.

History repeats itself it seems... Such experiments have already taken place, I wonder what are they up to now? :ahhh

Why waste bullets or worry about complicated solutions like Zyklon B when simple things can work just fine! [/sarcasm]

And then there's this

https://www.euractiv.com/section/economy-jobs/news/germany-opposes-key-eu-car-emission-test-reforms/

The UK, France and Germany have been accused of hypocrisy for lobbying behind the scenes to keep outmoded car tests for carbon emissions, but later publicly calling for a European investigation into Volkswagen’s rigging of car air pollution tests.

Germany is not alone in stalling. An inquiry by the European Parliament has accused EU member governments including Italy, France and Spain of repeatedly delaying the adoption of stricter car emissions tests, despite evidence that this has allowed pollution to go above legal limits

No link, but very easy to gooooogle-foo

Watched a fascinating Joe Rogan podcast with Mel Gibson on the subject of IV stem cell treatments.

If you have money to go to Panama for the treatment, it seems like the way to go......

Not that I can afford to get very old.......in fact with my finances I should take up smoking again

I don't get the horror about the 'taking photos of others as they lay dying' (he sold them later to news agencies) from a media who employ and glorify people paid just to do that. They're called photojournalists and they've been doing it since the American Civil War. In fact now the media is currently heavily reliant on crowd soured imagery for just this kind of thing as the profession of the PJ is dying due to lack of media funding and the decline of print media. The media is so two faced. If it's acceptable and your business model is based on it, don't try crying crocodile tears over it being also done by crooks while waving your halo around at the public.

Yeah thats a good idea, take the bling away from the rich kids whose parents are probably the kind that have a team of lawyers on retainer. That's a lawsuit just waiting to happen

Analysis of expired food

Some more "food for thought", some time ago I was looking some info about shelf-lives of various food products.
It turns out that many of them can be safely consumed even years after the best by date, as was said in the article
above.

How long, then, you ask? Well, I found this very handy website: EatByDate.Com, which has been very helpful for me. I'm now wasting less food than before.

Removing the sensationalist drama writing, this is still serious egg on the face for the Labour party, the Met and the BBC. I'm just surprised it wasn't covered up.

I wasn't being political. All politicians are as bad as each other wherever they are. As my boss says, Pride and Deceit had a baby and called it 'Politics'. :)

That said we can't begin to deal with anarchy. We really are a weird species aren't we?
