It's not just up to the retailers, it's up to us! Not that I'm a great consumer, but despite being a brand I liked (and owned), I'll never buy another Volkswagen, due to the emission scam they had a few years ago. I'll advise any of my friends to choose other brands, too.

Something sounds fishy, how did they pay a 1/3 of the minimum wage? You can't pay those kinds of rates for a factory staff these days, it's not Victorian England and you can't pay a factory's staff off the books in cash and get away with it either. Brand name sweatshops of immigrant workers being paid in cash at rates that low in the UK? If it is true there should be a bunch of government/tax/council heads rolling never mind boycotting the brand.

In many ways this is the genius of the VAG advertising machine- Despite this cheat being used in many of the groups' cars (The group includes Audi, Scoda, Seat, Porsche and others) and their bosses going to jail, the public, even if they are aware of the issue, they assume it is only a VW problem and not a VAG problem. If you see reviews their products are still seen as ethical because they are German owned and thus are not expected to cheat in any way.

maybe it was cash in hand, maybe the people were not supposed to be working legally, maybe  they were declaring less hours than they were actually working. ....

Yeah, well... awl those stereotypes are long gone, for me. I don't think I could ever afford a Porsche, that would be the only regret, so I'm cool.

I'm awlso the only person I know that doesn't buy anything from MacDonalds, Starbucks or Coca-Cola/Pepsi. Even if they did stop contributing to deflorestation, which I doubt, I refuse do give them my money.
