Spyderco Byrd info please

Any and all opinions on Byrd models , I have a chance to get a few of these for a smoking deal. I've never seen one in person so any feedback is appreciated. They seem to be a cheap Spydie knockoff or an I wrong ? Thanks in advance

They aren't a Spyderco knockoff in the literal sense, because they are made by Spyderco. They are a notch or three lower in design and execution, but are a fine knives and quiet a value.
The Byrd Cara Cara 2 is under $20 on Amazon.

powernoodle covered it pretty well.
I'll agree that they are good working knives with a Spyderco feel. For the price, they are great knives.
If you can get a great deal on them, go for it. Worst case, you don't like them, you can gift them and it won't break the bank.

The only fair comparison is the Tenacious range.
My only experience was with a shipment of new knives at my favourite shop, it was after hours so I got to play a bit.
The finishing on the Byrds wasn't as good, but my feeling was a bit of use/fondling would smooth that out quickly.
Ergonomics for me was considerably better than on the Tenacious, and it's all down to that front choil.
Seem's the new ones with the steel upgrade is not out yet, but I've seen one YT video and I agree, it will be a Tenacious-killer.

As you usually get more features than the corresponding competition in the Sypderco range I don't think you can fault them on design.
Fit and finish is acceptable, personally I would take a G10 Cara Cara 2 over a Tenacious; that's just me growing up with Delicas and Enduras.
My versions are butter smooth and the choils make them very ergonomic.
The FRN versions suffer a little in this regard with sharpish edges. BUT; I have learnt that sharp edges allow you to feel the position of the knife better; you know exactly where it is and how it is being held and handled.
I want 5 or 6 of those FRN Cara Cara 2's when I get over to the USA again. The best gifts you can find for $20.
PS, lack of sympathy and attachment goes a long way in EDC tasks. I would beat the hell out of them.

I bought a Byrd Tern last year as it complies with the german knife carrying laws and is one-hand opening.
Except the blade being a little short for my taste I love that little bugger! G10 scales, razor sharp, solid construction, light, inconspicious pocket-clip, Spyderco-Design (It just nestles into the palm - I don't own another Spyderco yet but the ergonomics are amazing in this one). For 30€ (where a Tenacious would cost me 60€) it's an amazing knife.

The meadowlark is on my top 10 list of all knives! The Robin 2 is a bit of a fattie for such a small blade and it does not have the linerless setup like the dragonfly (if I recall the FRN one is the same as the G10 but sunken liners). Everyone should have a hawksbill or two.

To be fair the G10 meadowlark is a different knife to the FRN one.

I won the Meadowlark in sort of a contest here on MTO last summer and have carried it more often than not. It's an awesome knife. It has no blade-play in any direction whatsoever, it's awesome EDC size, the blade has great length/width ration, I think. It's in my pocket now, too
