My first post on here... I bought my first ST new in '94, then the 200, then the new '09 300. I just got this 95 and feel young again, LMAO.

Thank you and thank you...

I found this forum as I was deliberating which ST to bid on...I also have a brand new 97 that I've used a lot recently. I got a new job and after 14 years didn't need to carry the 300 anymore. I bought a Bond and Rebar to 'lighten the load,' but they didn't cut it. OG for me...   [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

I see from the photos there is an actual "Supertool" - is there something in-particular that makes one a "Supertool"

Compared to what  the Supertool compared to the PST (regular LM Tool) is a 4 1/2 inch tool that has beefier plier head and tools :salute:

I may have comparison pics  will have to look

What Poncho said.
Here's a comparison pic of different generations from former to current.

Left -> right...

PST
Original Super Tool
Pulse
Super Tool 200
Rebar
Super Tool 300

They are bigger and have more implements like a serrated blade and a saw.
I'm missing the "zytel" area with the Core and Kick/Fuse/Blast though

Welcome to  :MTO: shovebill  :hatsoff:

The Original Super Tool was my first Leatherman that I bought back in '95. I know exactly what you mean  :D

I look back to '94 like it was yesterday, but it surely wasn't... I first bought an '84 Pocket Survival Tool and only replaced it when the ST came out. It can be noted how things come back in fashion every few decades, huh? Us geezers must stick together...

What great summary of the SuperTool.

To me they are AWL SUPER!

The ST300  and REBAR are my favorites for chores.

My PsTs for awl around pocket carry when pliers and knife maybe needed.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Thanks all for the explanation - History does have a way to repeating itself. Look at headlamps on a car - in the beginning they replaced a bulb, then we replaced a sealed beam, now we replace a bulb again. Maybe it's time to get into the sealed beam business

On your recommendation, I may just put my  ear to the ground to see if I can catch one. A bigger PST if I understand correctly.

See. I have a ST300 and a Rebar
A ST200 and a Pulse
A Surge and a Wave (2nd gen)
A PST and a ? (ST)

This going back is not a bad thing!👍
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

A bigger PST describes it well. I find it carries best of all the Super Tool variations.
BUT, some don't like the tool locking where you have to pull out another implement to unlock one.

Looks like it would fit right in to your collection  :tu:

I can only speak to my experience, but in 1994, when the ST debuted, there were no other multi-tools by which to compare the unlocking process. I thought it ingenious in the design's simplicity.

Yesterday at work my coworker asked me why I carry "that dinosaur." "Well, since this tool is older than you you wouldn't understand" was all I offered in response. He does like my 300 better, but carries some Surge-clone-type-thing he procured from Walmart....we are not the same, lol. However, there is hope for the child and this opportunity has presented itself to me to step up and be a positive male role model for the whippersnapper. Sometimes less is more and patience is a virtue, lol. I will not apologize for the philosophical insertion into this wonderful thread, LMAO...

@shovelbill

Profound thoughts are always welcome.

Remember, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!”

When I was young, raising a family, starting a life with responsibility, I would not have been able to buy a LM of any style or justify the expense to my bride. And, yes I know I would have SETTLED for a  copy/imitation!

At today’s prices the tools are even more difficult to justify until you use everyday and learn to understand the difference in quality and cost and apply  lifetime purpose and ROI.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

As do I. While our affinity for, love of, and enjoyment of these old tools brings us together as a collective, the thoughts, stories, and reflections we share provide a certain depth to the cohesiveness that pictures alone cannot convey. I'm rather happy to have found this thread and group of folks.

Thanks for having me...
