$100 = £72

Victorinox Spirit = £68.50 on Amazon

And look!  A 2000 lumen torch for just £3.50. :D
Great Choice :tu:

Exactly my choices. Only had to replace the Spirit with a SwissTool to keep enough for a knife.

With the Spirit X there's no need for a separate knife - I reckon it's worth getting a decent multi over a knife if you're strapped for cash.

Since I don't need pliers that much but torx I would go for a CT:

1 - CyberTool 29 - 50 CHF
2 - Pioneer or Huntsman - 25 CHF
2 - Nitecore Tube - 5 CHF
3 - Knipex Pliers - 20 CHF

A utility knife wouldn't be a bad idea to add with the spirit x. Cutting a lot of cardboard and tougher material I wouldn't want to destroy my spirit blade. You can get a utility knife for pennies almost.

Being from Switzerland I might go for:

1 - 2nd Hand '61 Soldier -
5 CHF
2 - Böker Tactical Roper - 50 CHF
3 - Cash (Saving Account) - 45 CHF

Shouldn't the 45 CHF be split evenly between gold, cheese, chocolate and cuckoo clocks?

This is fun:
ONE FOR CYCLISTS and others that need lots of screwdrivers

1 - Topeak Ratchet Lite DX -
25 $
2 - Farmer - 35 $
3 - Olight i3E EOS -
10 $

With the rest you could buy a 2nd hand MP600, a pair of Knipex pliers

Vic Explorer      -      £36.40
Maglite Solitaire -      £15.00
Gerber Suspension - £40.00

That brings me in just under £100.

This is pretty much what I EDC anyway, except I have a Spirit (which is nearly £100.00 in the UK). I haven't handled a Gerber suspension but it seems to be one of the cheaper 'quality' MT's out there so I'd make do with that.

Nice exercise!

A wave or a spirit, around 80$ i guess (depend on where you live)
a nitecore tube 10$, they are really great, and no need for battery!
with the left money a carabiner, a bic lighter, and eventually a 5$ adjustable wrench

Going for a UK perspective,let's say £100?

iLight iO3 or a Fenix EO5
If Amazon still have them at the right price,a MP600 bladeless, and either a Tinker or a Pioneer?

When I originally read the questions, it was £50, but that didn't sound reasonable to me so I was generous on the exchange rate.  :D

Having given this a bit more thought, I think I'd do the following:

Victorinox Farmer (around $35)
CRKT Zilla (around $30-35)
Mini Mag LED (around $20)

This leaves me about ten dollars for some matches (or a lighter), a small notebook and a cheap pen, all of which I would probably want in my EDC as well.

Def
Why the Zilla? Most people don't like it. Glad to see it make the Boss list.
Lots of good possibilities with $100 to spend.
Very much so.

If I'm not mistaken the rules are you have zero edc items, and you have $100 to spend on an edc set to actually carry EVERYDAY!!!! Is that accurate? I love these threads! :nanadance:

My initial elections:
1. Leatherman Skeletool
2. Leatherman Style CS
3. Fenix E01

Reasoning: This would give me a high capacity carry, that I can carry in a lot of different situations for $70 if all were purchased from Amazon today. The skeletool acts more of a knife, while the style covers what the skele lacks. The fenix covers my basic light needs without taking up much pocket space. Overall I could live with this.

I like the Zilla and think it is a very underrated tool, especially for the money, and in a situation like this it offers a lot of benefits.  Most folks don't like it because it's bulky but here are the reasons I chose it:

Fixed head pliers- IMHO there is a strength benefit to pliers that don't fold.  Some engineers agree with me, some don't, but I am a fan of a fized head plier tool, be it the Zilla, the SOG Tool Clip or the Wenger SwissGrip.

Screwdrivers- the two bits on board are great, but the ability to switch to Torx bits, Robertson bits and so on make the Zilla extremely versatile.

Ergonomics- the Zilla body is mostly round and so makes one of the most natural feeling screwdrivers in the whole multitool industry.  If you are driving or removing long screws, or if you have to remove or replace a lot of screws the ergonomics of the Zilla are greatly appreciated.  As it is an EDC item, it should be as versatile as possible, which means working potentially with long drywall or wood screws, long automotive or machinery screws etc.

Yes the Zilla is bulky, and yes it lacks a lot of tools, but the Farmer (or perhaps changing the Farmer for a Victorinox OHT) pretty well fills in the gap nicely.  About the only think I'd be missing is scissors, but instead of my pen/paper idea I might be able to source a Micra, which would fill in the gap.

Thinking outside the box I could get by with a Spirit and classic. Can't go wrong with those two

I agree- until it gets dark!  :D

The phone idea is great, but my initial theory assumed that you still have your phone, watch, sunglasses etc.  Frankly I think that a phone is the absolute best EDC item you can have, but like anything else, you need to know what it can and can't do.

This is a very smart thread topic.   :salute:

So many choices.

1) Victorinox Explorer Plus = $48
2) Fenix E05 = $20
3) mini Sharpie =  $1
4) cheap phone = $31

Or,

1) Leatherman Wingman = $34
2) Victorinox Manager = $25
3) mini Sharpie = $1
4) Fenix E01 = $10
5) cheap phone = $30

I could buy a Gerber Octane for R359 up until recently. I got one and would be happy to use as a daily EDC along with and E01 and meadowlark.

Is that $100 Canadian or US? Going by the assumption it's US, then that's €92.12. Hmmm...

Working with local Internet prices here, though I prefer buying from a physical shop so I can check what I'm getting on the spot:

Vic Handyman - €56 (usually more like €62.5)
Fenix E01       - €10
Knipex cobra   - €22

That's €88 in total, not counting postage fees. Assuming I could get everything with free shipping, which is not very likely, with the remaining €12 I'd get me a BIC lighter (€1) and a couple of AAA lithium primaries (€5), maybe a BIC pen and a sharpie and some electrical tape (approx €5 for all three) and possibly still have a spare €.

I need to think about it some more, see I want a Pioneer in that mix!

Edit: I seriously doubt you could get a Vic Spirit for less than €120 here at the moment  :-\

Let's say US.  Right now the Canadian dollar is doing so poorly that this is not too far off a $100 EDC....

I've found myself carrying my KSJ (Juice C2 sullied by kirky forever) more then my wave - so -

Juice C2 (paid about £35)
Opinel #7 (€10, about £8)
Cheapy ebay cree light about £2.50 - had this for a while now, great light for the price

Thats less then £50 - not bad and meets most of my day to day, in fact could manage without the opie.
With the money left over I'd buy a Vic Hiker i think :) and still come in with £30 ish left over.

 Guess I start off with a

-LM Rebar for about $50

-Vic Executive (new $30) on the Bay I have always gotten them almost new for around $8-$14 so I will say $12 for the experiment

-I have bought a few different decent flashlights at Lowes for around $10 -$15 so I will say $13 for this as well.  I have around a 70 lumen light(couple actually) that I only gave $8 for and would be fine with that light as well

-Gerber Shard $6

-Fisher bullet pen $18

- small Bic lighter $1

Total is $100 :tu:

I think I would be happy with that setup as it is what I EDC minus the light anyway :P :D

LM Wave $40-$65 currently off fleabay
Thrunite T10  $25-$30 currently off amzn

In all reality to my way of thinking this is the most complete set up and most minimalistic in nature for me.

If anything I might add a PW2 at $20 ( amzn ) or a bit kit at $22 ( fleabay ).

Heck one could just be patient and buy from our great sale thread.  I've seen some very nice deals posted.

Leatherman Rebar - $45
Style PS - $20
Spyderco - Tenacious - $35

These prices may reflect from a year or so ago unless you wait for the deals. Anyways, I would be happy with this setup. Well I used to carry this configuration often so I know its good for me.

No SAK I know. I would replace the Style PS with a Climber if necessary.

The Squirt is such a little gem IMO.  So much utility for a little guy.  Pliers are wonderful "super" tweezers and yet still tough enough for larger than tweezer jobs.

All bought on sale...

Leatherman Wave - $60
Leatherman Bitkit + Extender- $25
Black Diamond Ion Headlamp - $15

That said I usually don't EDC the wave because it's an overkill for my needs and I always have bigger MTs close by. This is assuming I will not have anything else accessible and just got $100 to spend in a store where everything is 25% off.
