Some better pictures would help.  :pok:

How did that happen? Yes, I would suggest sending it in and I am almost certain they would replace it.

I thought for a second it may have been a blade grind that was off, but that style blade does not have the grind there if I remember correctly.

Yeah, if that is actually a crack and not some kind of machining artifact, then it definitely needs to go back to Spyderco.

I suspect that they will make you happy, but there is no guarantee.  They have to determine that there is a defect in materials or workmanship.

Good luck.

Well I cannot offer any more help then. If you contact Spyderco they will just tell you to send it in which I would do if its actually a crack.

Interesting place for a crack.  I'd say Sal and the guys will take care of you.  Any thoughts as to how that happened?  Drop? Super tuff thumbs?

Crack or sloppy grind ?

Is it across the top of the blade too?

Yes , its across the top also , never really noticed it before, I never dropped or abused it in anyway , kind of strange I guess. You can almost see light through it. Spoke with the warranty division and explained , they did not think it is going to be a problem. I'll keep you posted.

Spyderco's warranty division are not a fun bunch of people to deal with, so good luck with that.  A crack at the top of the blade shouldn't be too big of an issue given where it is but you should keep an eye on it, as it can lead to more torsional stress on the blade.

Leek as always , Delica is my backup blade or weekend carry , might start carrying it more this summer over my Scallion. Still waiting for a Kershaw to come back from warranty after 6 weeks and no response  . Spyderco said 7 days max after receiving , we'll see how that goes.

I've heard horror stories about that , when I spoke with them yesterday they were extremely friendly and helpful

I've never dealt with Spyderco's warranty or customer service, but I have dealt with their marketing department a number of times and even had the pleasure of meeting Sal once, and I have to say that I would have the utmost faith in their customer service.  I'm sorry to hear that some have had poor service from them, but that's not something I have ever experienced.  In fact, I have only ever had one poor experience with a warranty claim and that had more to do with the Canadian rep for the company than the company themselves.  Needless to say, one quick email resulted in a very swift correction and satisfactory result was achieved.

Don't mess with MTO members... :D

I have had a bad experience with them that turned into a slightly funny (to me) moment with them. Maybe not if it happened to someone else, but I found it comical and it basically made them give me what I wanted because they were out of line and got caught by me. I have also had good experiences with them. To be transparent I have had at least one bad warranty experience with all of the top brands with the exception of Gerber. I still believe Gerber has the best, least hassle, no questions asked, warranty in the business.

Kershaw has always been great to me.  They are very very bad tho at getting back to me.  Funny thing is when I emailed them for replacement parts I didn't hear from them for a few weeks.  Then I emailed them again and bingo parts came in over the next several  days.  I ended up with 3 times the parts mailed over the course of 1 week.

Should have gone for different parts each time, maybe you could have built yourself a new knife!  :D

As far as companies not sending out certain parts...... weeeeeelllll that's sort of true.  :D

I have convinced a lot of companies to send out things they said they never will. Case in point. I got B&nch#ade to send me a set of Om*ga Spri^gs. They flat out told me they never do and never will send them out. Well..... a few emails later and they were at my door.  Many, many people on BF have mentioned trying to get them to send out the springs and no one is ever successful with a very tiny amount of exceptions like a soldier on deployment and needing the springs as soon as possible. That's actually the only example I have ever heard of them sending them out besides the set they sent to me. That's just one example.

I just re read my post and it comes across a bit douchy. I in no way mean I take advantage of companies to get things. I just mean there are certain situations where me sending in my knife and wasting both mine and their time and money is plain dumb and them sending a few parts will solve everything quickly and economically for both parties as well as eliminating the factor of possible loss or theft of the knife in transportation to and from both parties.

It didn't come across that way , I know what you mean. I hated sending my Leek back to Kershaw and finally after 7.5 weeks they finally got back me. I was starting to get the feeling I would never see it again. I also got that back on Thursday new blade and all  :2tu:

Good to hear Spyderco is making it right.  I have no problem sending tools in for warrant work especially when part of the selling point is the companies warranty.  LM for example boasts about their 25 year warranty, so if my tool fails under normal use and not flat out abuse, then back it goes.

Using the knife as a pry bar IMO voids warranty and buying tools damaged because one knows the company warranty is lenient is not so cool.
