Enjoying the super pics guys!

A new and pretty much unused sideclip has joined my band. I'll leave it stock as its so clean. Nice to have incase I lose the other.

Unlike its well used younger shiny multi dated later example (12/03 to 02/04) this one is the matte finish earlier version.
It has the very beginnings of a few tiny spots of rust which I erased with a graphite pencil and wiped clean. Gave it a bath and a rub of acf50 to forever banish the red devil.

Poncho, the ease with which you assured Stephane the dates were all the same on that one immediately made me check my own. Yep the early matte ones are all the same! Mine is 02/98 also. Font of knowledge you are sir.

The wee bosses hand shot up with mammy pig whilst taking this photo during our stroll.

My zdp189 manbug is only 18g, it's bar none THE perfect keyring knife imo. Well paired with the side clip I feel.

She's like, "check out daddy pigs toys!"
One last thing I had to do was this

That's how anal I am right there.
It was making a click noise when handled . I'd say the clips downward retention was stressed at some point. The heat shrink has silenced it :pok:

Probably shouldn't show that but then again maybe there's more like me out there

I found this forum while looking for resources on figuring out a date of production for a different multitool, since I wanna get a touch more serious about collecting, but finding this topic got me to make an account, haha. Sorry if my forum etiquette is rusty, it's been a while... I got this sideclip from a pawn shop for something like $10 in roughly 2019. Date stamps 0498/0598/0698. You can tell it's well-loved; it's the tool I use most often. (The Benchmade next to it is my EDC, has been since 2017, and is also pretty well loved haha)

Great picture polite bomb, and welcome to  :MTO:

Hoping you will find great answers and even greater friends on the forum, and of course bring your own knowledge and experience !

Oh, and if you ever get tired of that Sideclip one day, I'd be happy to take it off your hands, for, let's say, twice the price you paid…  :D

Congratulations!!
OK, I finally made it on the Sideclip wagon, bought on this great forum !  :mail:

[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]

I was a bit discouraged when I got it, it seemed a bit underpar compared to the PSTs in terms of opening and closing the tools.

And then I took it apart to reshape the clip, and discovered by trial something that most of you must know but I did not  :P : not all 4 pivots are the same size, the one that holds the clip is significantly longer. The problem with my tool is that the pivots where in the wrong order, and once put back in the right one, everything is much, much better !  :D

I am really happy to get this tool ! In the future I may try to put some scissors instead of one of the 3 (!) flat screwdrivers, we'll see…

Finally scored a SideClip. Date codes 0698, 0898, 1098, 0199. Pretty impressed with how lightweight it is.

The thing that made me want a SideClip was this kind of message about how light it was. But after I got it, I have another opinion. You lose some functionality from a PST only for a few grams. The only big plus is the pocket clip. But the thing it’s less common and most of the time more expensive than a PST, I actually still prefer a PST in my pocket.
I will attach 3 photos:
1. SideClip from ‘98
2. Japan PST
3. PST from ‘01.

The only big plus is the pocket clip.

 Thanks, I was unaware of the actual weights.

For me, the pocket clip is indeed a BIG plus. I'm not a fan of extra stuff hanging on my belt, or heavy/bulky items in the bottom of my pocket. Every day for quite a while now, I have carried an Executive in my right pocket and a Sentinel Clip on the same right pocket. My lightweight perspective comes from the fact that for two days I have also had the SideClip on my right pocket with the other two and I don't observe any felt increase in weight. And I can still get in the pocket easily. Win-Win for me!

Joking aside, this is a good compromise, don't you think ?

Good mod, but I don't like too much because he can move freely around that pivot point.
I was actually thinking to make holes and thread them to put a free series pocket clip. I'm not sure would work, but it's something I think I will give it a try soon.

Good idea. For mine, I myself I drilled a hole for the tab. It doesn't move.

For sure, if you can put threads and have a Free series clip, that would be even better, but I don't have the tools and skill for that.
