Actually, we just got back from hanging out at a big bonfire with Hawkchucker. If you like the guy on the forum, you are going to love him in real life. Great guy!

We went to Freeport Knife and LL Bean today, I spent some money, Bob spent some money, and a good time was had by all. I got in a little trouble at LL Bean when I got a phone call and accidentally told the person on the other end (loudly) that I was at Cabela's. It wasn't intentional but one of the salespeople didn't seem to appreciate it!

Tomorrow we are off to Cabela's and maybe another trip to Freeport Knife to pick up the few items I didn't buy today....

Well Just a quick little note as I just got home and left the 2 up in Maine. It was a great time and actually more fun than what was expected. It was also a great learning experience to see how things run behind the scenes. I was sworn to secrecy in the inside stuff, but lets just say in a cryptic way that Purple may be the new blue for me.

I really got to say that today was fantastic. After breakfast we spent several Hours at Cabellas. It was really nice not having to rush through the place like I usually have to do when having a kid and wife in tow. I will tell ya there are a TON pf pics that will be posted when out 2 fearless leaders return. Plus you guys will really be getting to see the inside of some really cool stores. Plus some now stuff that the 2 of them bought. I actually sill most likely be taking orders from people ( Trusted ones) and will go back to stores to get stuff people will want. This should be able to hold some over ontil this is done again nest year. Yes I said until next year..... I would hope that this can be continued and maybe having more attend than the 5 that went.

We had a great time that's for sure! Wow what a wonderful location and what wonderful company. Maine is every bit as beautiful as I've always heard it was, and the country setting that Hawkchucker arranged for the meet was definitely my kind of place. And with so many interesting outdoor shops and knife stores nearby there was always fun stuff to do.

I've never been in a Cabela's,only looked through the catalogs.How's their boating section?

Not bad... not great, but not bad, considering they don't specialize in boats.

It seems that in recent years places like Cabelas has gotten farther from knives and guns and more into water bottles and sportswear, so much of the "serious" sporting goods are still better gotten at dedicated stores.

There are scores of kayak, bike and ski shops all over the place here, so going to a dedicated boat place wouldn't be too far out of the way.

And to make things worse and sadder,the dedicated niche stores are being squeezed out by the big box stores,even if the big boxes don't handle a lot of the specialty goods.At any rate,you got to spend some quality time in a great part of the country,at a terrific time of year.

Yeah, it's been great, and I can't wait to do it again next year!

It was great to be able to meet Joe and John face to face, and a nice bonus to meet Joe's wife, little Destinee who has the honor of being the youngest Multitool.org member, Natalie and some other wonderful people. You know, there's always been a bit of a connotation to meeting folks on the internet, but so far I've met a few face to face and they've all been diamond people. Just wait until we get some of these pictures sorted out, and you'll see the fun we had, from John's hunting camo to my new set of antlers, to Bob and the giant boot. And the time I got locked in with the fish... and John riding a teeny bear, then trying to dress it up until the Cabela's employee caught us!

Seriously, this is a great little place to spend a weekend, and I'm looking forward to making it an annual event.
