Wenger Standard Issue Aluminium
on: September 09, 2008, 03:21:34 PM
Today i did a search through all the boxes with older Wenger knives, and i found 10 Handwerkers with red plastic scales in good condition, but also a similar knife with aluminium scales dated 1974.
I've never seen one like it before, anyone here ?

Photo's will come soon,

Here are a few pictures of what turns out to be a Standard Issue knife with aluminium scales.

It's knifeblade was in very bad shape with a rounded & bent point, and many nicks along the edge.
Using the Tormek freehanded i could restore it to good working order, but when you look at the nailnick you can see some material was sacrificed.
Even the kick had to be brought down, otherwise the point would stick up a little out of the handle in the closed position.

The screwdriver/bottleopener with it's inside sharpened to a scraper,canopener/screwdriver, and awl are in like new condition.

This knife has a lot of life left in it, and still has very strong backsprings.

I think that's a "Standard Issue", i.e. the Wenger version of the knifes they issue to the Swiss Army.

Did the Standard Issue knives also come with a dated blade like the Handwerkers ?

That's a job well done  :salute:

I love sorting out old knives and giving them a new lease of life.  I actively search out the beaten knives on eBay for that reason... and that they're cheap ;)
