Houston, I may have a problem!
on: September 29, 2013, 10:59:56 PM
Here is an old but current photo of most of my watches. Not sure how I ended up with so many. I mean, all you need is one or two.

I was looking back into the archives, and thought some of you might enjoy this photograph...talk about new world problems.

I haven't added to it lately...but I do have to fight the urge not to...and that is totally ridiculous. I have to remind myself I am not a watch collector. I do wear most of these in a somewhat haphazard rotation.

I love watches too. Whenever we go shopping I always stop at the watch displays and drool.

I don't have too many, probably 8-10. But I'm always on the lookout for a good deal.

If you think those are too many, please send the Timex WS4 in the upper right and what I take to be a Protrek or Pathfinder in the lower left to me - I´ll take care of them...  :D

You have a keen eye lowtech. That is indeed a Casio Pathfinder, and bang on the Timex as well.

I enjoy watches as well and like to wear certain watches at certain times.  even though I have mostly gshocks they all have their differences.  I do have a work watch however and its a simple casio that I really enjoy.  nice watch box btw

After posting this thread, I got to thinking about the various watches that my mother had. Well after a lot of searching, I found them. Unbeknownst to me, she also kept my first watch. I didn't even know I had this watch still. To think she kept it safe and sound all these years is amazing. I would lie if I said I didn't shed a little tear as all the old memories of this watch came to the forefront.

My father bought this watch to teach me how to tell time. It was a failed experiment, as I think I was 5 or 6 years old at the time, and I just couldn't figure out how to read it. Consequently, it didn't get used by me much...even though my parents forced me to wear it for a year or so. The good news, I eventually learned how to read analogue time, but completely forgot about my first watch until I saw it once again.

Here it is...and it will go into my er...watch collection even though I can't wear it. I probably should take it into a jewelers to have a look at it and replace the battery. I hope it hasn't leaked inside. Even so, this watch is a bit precious to me.

And to my mother's watches. There are even a few dress watches from the time she was a Bell telephone operator. I strongly suspect a watch or two from her mother there as well.

I think I am going to find room for them with my other watches. It is good to keep them altogether I am thinking.

That one was my mothers fancy watch for a while. It is an Aspen Quartz with japan movement decorated with abalone shell.

EDIT: The watch below that is of some interest. My father had a larger one, but that got ruined in the early 80s. My mother still had here 70s LED watch. No markings on it other than some numbers on the back. I wonder if it would still work.

Some info on LED watches.

That's not a watch problem.  Lemme tell you about when it becomes problematic:

I sold a watch to a guy a few years back (3-4), and he worked at a car dealership close to the downtown core.  He asked me to drop it off for him, no problem, making a pretty good profit.

Takes me to his office, opens the cabinet behind his desk and there is literally, and I mean *literally*, a pile of watch ~20cm/8in high.  No boxes, no display case, just a pile of watches.

He turns to me and says "these are the watches I don't want my wife to know about".

That is a watch problem
