Wenger AN vs Wenger NA catalogue numbers
on: April 28, 2016, 11:59:41 AM
Forgive the ignorance, but Identifiers of models in SAK Wiki often refer to Wenger NA (North America) and to Wenger AN.
What the heck do the letters AN stand for ?  ??? I assume it refers to the European marketing catalogue numbers .
Example:
Identifiers
16444 Wenger NA: Serrated Backpacker - Serrated blade, and a Phillips Screwdriver
16911 Wenger NA: Regular Backpacker - Plain Blade, Nail file and a Corkscrew
1.13.03 Wenger AN: Regular Backpacker - Plain Blade, Nail file and a Corkscrew
1.013.009.000 Wenger AN: listed as Classis 13 - Plain Blade, Nail file and a Corkscrew
1.13.09.803 Wenger AN: Hardwoods 13
1.08.01.802 Wenger AN: Camo 08
1.08.01 Wenger AN: listed as Basic 08 - Plain Blade, Nail file, Corkscrew, no tweezers or toothpick

Honestly, not sure. :D I always read it as:

AN - All Nations
NA - North America

Cause for some reason the US and Canada had to have their own model numbers ::)

It was already in the wiki when I started working on it and I just followed what was the norm there.

AN = Article Number

Comes from manufacturing, inventory management, cataloging. It's a generic term for Part Number that is used to represent anything that is cataloged.

Hope you sleep better :)

I slept like a baby , and now the 191 people who viewed the question but had no answer can sleep better as well !
Some  , however will be talking in their sleep mumbling strange things such as "All Nations" "Article Number"
Thank you for the info -indeed you can fix it !  :D

Hi Nikola, great to see you are still on the forums as i presume that means you're still enjoying your knives and finding new ones. I had to stop by the forum because of the Pioneer X. I already picked up a couple of those and of course the Damasus one to remind me if my youger SAK days.  Such a surprise, but i hear there might be more big changes in 2017.

Just been seeing if i've missed anything else important since I've been away.  Saw a couple simple questions i could answer on the first page so i thought i'd write a couple posts. Although i've forgot much about SAKs already, i need JazzBass to finish that book of his.

Take Care, I hope to comeback with a picture or two. I did get a Wenger with wooden scales that had eluded me that needs a few photos posted. I hate to think of all the nice ones that got away over the last few years, but since i have too many already I can accept it.  Very few i'd like to bump into these days.
