I have used the bullets in the past, and I have a Fisher Stowaway ... somewhere  but they all tried to do a Houdini on me.

They are very aptly named, as very often there's a space where the pen used to be  ::)

I still like pressurised pens, but these days it's the much cheaper Tombow Airpress for me. When you click the pen to deploy the pen, it pressurises the cartridge within. If doing a lot of writing, you might have to repressurise it at some point by clicking the pen off and on again, but I don't mind this at all. The pens are cheap, comfortable, and have a decent clip too.  :tu:

My view point on the space pen, the stuff I love about it, is their extreme reliability and (to a lesser extent) their durability. Not writing quality (I consider it good though, with the fine point refill  :tu: ) or it's escape artist training.  ::)

In the months I've had mine, it's seen periods with no use, just tagging along in my fifth pocket, sheath or bag, and it's only skipped like twice.  :salute:
Both times were after very heavy use(strangely), and very brief.

Show content
Particularly relevant for people living in frigid areas( Like the boss  ) or scorching areas, is the wiiiide operating temperature of the ink. It can be used in conditions where you need special equipment just to be in.
I believe that the AG-7, same refill as the bullet but with no O-rings or non metal parts, can be used in the vacuum of space. This is relevant because for some reason, a pen that works O.K in outer space  works supremely well on Earth, at least in terms of reliability.  :D

Durability and quality, how many pens can you get for $20 are of brass construction? I think that the Bullets are to other pens like SAKs are to multitools and knives.... Really cheap for the extreme quality.  :salute:

Basically, it's a pen that you can depend on, some other pens may be more comfortable or lay down better lines, but the bullet will be working well when all others fail.... If you don't lose it.
Personally, I think that the security of my bullet with clip is fine. No way is it running out of my sheath, bag or fifth pocket.  8)

I don't use mine often but when I do I expect it to work.  This is what I discovered when I needed a pen yesterday.  Thankfully I had my manager on me which has never had this issue in roughly 5 years of carry.  I tossed both space pen inserts and used a modded zebra one.

Anyone else?

I'll have to fetch them from the bin.  I got the pen cleaned out but I was really bummed.  I carry it in my pocket inside a leather sheath I made.  Glad the ink was only leaking within the pen.

That's got real Workhorse character Punch so
I like how its slowly turning into a brass colour.

+1 to that ... I was starting to think I should replace the brass lacquered one I gave away ... but maybe Chrome as it ages wears would be even nicer

Thanks guys  It is a great and reliable pen for sure and it is getting a nice pocket worn look to it :tu: :like:

If lack of money is any indication of a black hole pocket then thats certainly the case.

You have the symptoms. :ahhh
Now to scientifically prove it by putting the Bullet back in your pocket with a new refill, and seeing if it leaks again.  :tu:

Resistance to leaking in heat is the reason lots of people buy these, to have a pen that they can leave in the hot car without fear of leaks.  :)

I'm looking at NASA documentation from 1973, the refill is rated for use from -46°C(-50°F) to 71°C(160°F). If it gets that hot in Cali I'm staying well away.  :D

I think that it's more likely a flaw in the fit of the refill metal bits.

On my space pen refill and probably a lot of other refills, I see light ink staining around the joint where the chrome coloured tip fits into the brass tube. Purely cosmetic, and not noticable because refills tend to be inside a pen.  ::)
It's understandable because the ink is under 50 psi after all... Alohas' refills might have been from a bad batch.
In any case, Fisher has a great warranty.  :tu:

A friend of mine here in the UK has had them leak too, so it's not just a Cali heat thing

I've had the medium tips glob a bit if you don't use them regularly and I seem to recall I had one leak a long while ago at a time when the pen never got used. But I didn't feel it was much different to my experiences with some other refills

My Fisher Cap-o-matic snapped in half.

I had a cap-o-matic before I lost it and got an AG-7. I did have the feeling that if I'd sat on the cap-o-matic it would have bent or broken. I'm sure I did bend it slightly having it in the pocket of my jeans. Not so with the AG-7, which is very sturdy

That's exactly what happened. I had it in my back pocket and sat down on it one to many times and heard a crack. Pulled it out and it's in two pieces.

Brass Space Pen, with a lovely patina and a AG-7. The mechanism on the AG-7 is very addictive, so much so, that I can't take the pen to meetings since I would just end up playing with it.

Love the Bullit. Carry one every single day but as a backup that I know will work when I need it. As others have experienced I have lost one due to a vanishing act. Just for reference the bullit I lost did not have a clip installed. I replaced it with a brass bullit with clip and it’s been sitting in the bottom of my pocket for years now. I love using it (with fine point replacement) and knowing it’s there if needed.

I also had a cap o matic that snapped in half in my front pocket. Fischer replaced it for free!

I've been fettling a couple of my fountain pens with the thought I'd get them back into action.

I EDC a Fisher Bullet most days and today it has been my .375 pen. Shown here with my Ti Compleat Fisherman

I randomly came across my Bullet in SS that I completely forgot I even owned! I was reevaluating and swapping out batteries and other items in my BOB when I found it. It brought a child like smile to my face and my wife even said I looked like a child on Christmas.  :D

I used to love Space Pens but last year, I got a run of bad refills.  Write great but they ooze ink if you don't use them for a while.  My last refill seems to be fine but I replaced it with a Sheaffer for EDC.
