What's your latest oddball?
on: April 21, 2016, 02:57:35 AM
Since we didn't have a thread for the oddball multitools we all come across, I figured I'd start one.

I won an auction today on Ebay for a M.S. Limited Canadian Navy Knife.  I had been looking for a British Navy Knife, and came upon it with a "Rigging Knife" search and watched it a couple days.  It was $10 plus shipping with 3 bids when I bid, but I ended up in a bidding war, and it ended up being $15.50 after that war was over with 8 bids.  Cost me a total of $20 with shipping. Far cheaper than the $50+ example I found a while back in close shape.  Only problem goes--this looks to have been cleaned and de-rusted with a Dremel with a wire brush attachment causing scratches.

Story goes, the parts were made by Case and assembled in Nova Scotia by M.S. Limited for the Canadian Navy.   So, it's an oddity in the fact that it's a British pattern, manufactured by an American company, and assembled and used by the Canadians.

Photo from Ebay listing.

That's a classic pattern alright. I see them listed for sale occasionally, but I've never handled one in person. I'm told the big Marlin spike is for help getting tight knots in rope undone, and the short little blade is for opening cans.

...and the main blade is not pointy, so that sailors cannot stub each other.

I guess I could add this in here. I got it last month, an Italian Navy copy of the classic British Army Knife. Pretty well put together, nice and solid. :tu:
