Still have been carrying mine, it's been great for day to day, I just finished physical therapy and am feeling better, one more surgery to go at the end of the month, you bet your bottom dollar I will be bringing the Swisschamp in my hospital bag, you just never know!

Glad to hear it!!  There's a review for the Swiss Champ on Vic's site some ways down in which a doc actually used the pliers for an emergency procedure.  This knife is the stuff of legends!

My three Champs.

I've been meaning to post this pic for a while now. Just waiting for time and a sunny day.

The black one was my first. I got the red one as a spare. The green one I bought to break up for parts for mods, but it cleaned up so nicely that I decided to keep it and replaced the original red scales with the emerald ones.

Now I'll need to get a fourth to use for parts.

 :woohoo:

This SCS, I *finally* made the break through to show the first generation pliers Champs ran from ‘86 to ‘88 in production. Confirmation comes from a wide assortment of dated knives. Battle series, Apollo, Hoffritz LE/LE2, Space shuttle.

The thing I was missing is clear in this pic with representatives from each of the 3 years.

Are those early pliers narrower than the later ones? They look like it in your photo. At least compared with mine, like in my photo a couple of posts earlier.

I have the creative urge to mod a Champ by adding the bit driver. I don't need the spatula, electrician's blade, and small pruner blade of the XLT.

But that will be a big SAK.

Anyone done this before?

Yes they are!  :tu: These thin pliers only show up in Champs, Craftsman, Handyman, and Rütli models of the era AFAIK. They are easily identified by the joint area which is continuous or ‘smooth’ appearing when closed.
