My Tanaka chainsaw for the badge
on: April 24, 2016, 01:39:22 AM
I took it out for the pictures but I didn't cut anything today.  I did use the saw to fell a Gumbo Limbo tree back in March though, and I commented on its cutting ability during the March Wave Challenge.  I've previously used it to cut up Florida White Oak that I use in my smoker, and it cut through the old phone pole sections that it is pictured with here.  Great saw, highly recommended.  Tanaka has the best consumer warranty in the business, at a full 7 years for non-commercial users.

I am not a chain saw user, unless you count my itty bitty electric one. Do they come with right/left handed versions?

Thanks. I made the pickaroon out of a bolt I removed from the phone pole and used a hammer haft I already had laying around, so the pickaroon cost me nothing but my time.  Drilled a 1/2 inch hole in the haft, soaped up the bolt and turned it through the hole with a ratchet, then locked the bolt in a vice and leaned on the handle to put the curve into it.  It needs to be sharpened but I don't have a working grinder these days.

I'm sure some company has a left handed chainsaw, I just don't know who.

i use chainsaws every day but I've never seen a left handed one , but being left handed myself it's never been a problem.

According to published information on the vast interwebs there are no currently available left handed chainsaws, and left handed users are advised to use a saw right handed so as to correctly engage the safety features such as the chain brake.  Sorry guys.

Like Weasel it hasn't been a problem for me. Couple years ago I saw one with a modified handle that allowed a lefty grip. Belonged to a forestry worker.
