When something looks a bit odd/off/weird I evaluate according these principles (in this order):

1  Don't automatically believe anything published, and especially if PR gurus are involved

2  Follow the money (ie who benefits ? )

3  Is this due to simple incompetence/ignorance

4  Is deliberate corruption involved ?
