The Maxpedition Sitka has been my go to adventure bag for a while now and I really like it.   It is slightly smaller than a backpack but had the convenience of a sling bag.

Megan and I went for a picnic in the local arboretum last week and the Sitka packed up nicely with a large towel to sit on, a few sandwiches and a couple of water bottles.  It also made a great impromptu pillow as I looked oh at the clouds for a bit.

I have a lot of bags, but this is one of my favorites.

Good stuff. The arboretum is a nice spot in town. Next trip I challenge you to endeavor is Muskie fishing in Dows Lake.

I'm only a couple of blocks away from Dow's Lake and I'll probably be there again sometime in the next few days if the rain doesn't get too bad.  I probably won't go fishing though, as I have yet to get my license.  I have the Outdoors Card, but not the license itself.  I'll probably get it next week as I'll be heading out of town for the long weekend.

I think sling bags are a pain and must be banned for long trips even with light loads

You're not allowed outdoors without a card?      :P

I can see why you probably don't like it,  but to me the convenience is worth it.  I rarely wore backpacks with both straps anyway, plus with two messed up ankles I won't be hiking that far.

You're not allowed outdoors without a card?      :P

Yes, you are, but if you want to fish or hunt while you are there you need the card.  We live downtown in the nation's capitol so we are entwined in red tape taking a morning pee...

How annoying, well for me anyway, I tend to urinate often.

Me as well....

The funny thing is that we have to have the cards, but the government apparently can't spell because mine says Grant Lamontage and the other one says Meagn Bluemanthal.   ::)

I can just imagine the officer in charge of issuing those cards...

That would be about right. ... I can understand folks in the backwoods of Ontario not knowing how to spell "Blumemthal" properly, but Lamontagne is pretty common in those areas, and even Autocorrect knows Meagn is wrong.

Backwoods Ontario is probably the best place to go for name spellings. :)
