On the other hand, we have "off-gassing" or "out-gassing":

So, in one case it's cosindered a pleasant or even desired thing, but on the other, it is considered harmful, unpleasant, even disgusting or dangerous...

But, you know, it's that new car smell...

I think some people are way too fixated on their vehicles.
