Here are my Ecolines. I love 'em. From to bottom we have here:

1. Vic Sportsman (almost 15 years old and oddly brighter than the other two)
2. Vic Huntsman
3. Vic Recruit

What's the story behind the Economy line? Were they an attempt to make cheap SAKS even cheaper?
I hardly ever saw any of these for sale, and when I did the price difference was negligible. Are they still in production?

I prefer the ECO line but they are hard to find. I have an Eco-Tinker I bought about 10 years ago but since then I have made my own by putting nylon scales on 2 Climbers (black & red), a Hiker, 2 Spartans (black & red), a small Tinker (blue nylon) and a Tourist.

I much prefer nylon scales to cellidor ones. I've put some on my EDC Vic Handyman and the 91mm Ranger I use around the house. In these pics there's also a Climber. I have a couple of Huntsman and Recruit models stashed away as well, I couldn't get pics of those.

It's amazing how the shield on the Ranger can still be seen clearly under a certain angle! Normally it doesn't show anymore, so much it has worn off.

Ecoline and cellidor, How could it be?

Yes, there are cellidor scales in the older (first?) economy series. No toothpick/tweezers slots and hot stamped shields of the federal shape.

Main purpose was to make people show their nylon scaled SAKs, but ... my title say "Economy/Ecoline", so it sure counts!!  :salute:

And my title quite excludes the nylon scaled advertising SAKs...  though i'd like to see again a black nylon H&K branded SAK that i didn't bought at flea market years ago   ::)

I still kinda regret not getting any of those Malaysian army knives, the black eco Bantams, back when they were like $10.

I have one of these, an Economy version of the Huntsman from 1984, still the SAK I reach for first. After 32 years, I thought it deserved an upgrade, and picked up a mini screwdriver for the corkscrew. Apart from the scales, everything else is like a standard Huntsman (this one pre-dates the back layer hook).

Probably have some others that qualify, but this is my one ECONOMY stamped SAK.

Economy Climber.   Nearly gutted it for the scissors but realised in time that the ECONOMY tang stamp was quite short lived and in the hundreds of SAKs that have passed through my hands (that's what she said) I've only ever seen this example.

The top shot is of old celidor Ecos, all 84mms and all without t&t.

The bottom shot is a mix of 84mm and 91mm Ecos with nylon scales. All have t&t. The Spartan is actually a Weekender with serrated blade.

Looking through the pile of unwashed masses (of SAKs), I found an old Economy cellidor scaled Huntsman.
