All I know  (so far) is that there was a major power issue at our server host facility.  It appears to have been solved and our server was restored as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately when our server was restrated we booted up with a database error that needed to be fixed.....

But we are finally up and running again and there should be no further issues.

I went and checked the MT Encyclopedia as soon as I read this and it seems fine so hopefully the SAKWiki just needs to be rebooted :tu:

It was. ... for NNR!

Seriously, as I understand it, it wasn't just our server, it was the entire facility,  and the owner (or part owner, I'm not sure) spent the night there single handedly getting the entire place back online.

I know it was inconvenient, and I was really quite angry about it last night, but after hearing a bit about the extent of the outage and how Guido worked through the night to get it fixed, I have to say that I am very impressed and happy that it wasn't much worse and that he went to so much effort to get it done.

Don't they have a generator?  That's a pretty standard piece of equipment at most server farms.

I believe they do- that's why this was such a surprise.

I don't have any details beyond what I've shared, but I do know they have a generator and I believe that was part of why it took so long to get everything back up and running- it shouldn't have happened in the first place.  When your safety net fails you need to start making things up to make things happen.

Yes, there are backup power options, this level of crash is a bit surprising... Primerelay have a good framework so they were likely notified immediately...

There were a few things that didn't start back up correctly (such as the forum database which needed a repair) and the wrong version of PHP started up causing EDCSource to be down for a while longer... had I gotten out of bed when I first woke up instead of sleeping in a bit more I could have sorted some of that sooner.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.
