I was thinking about having the opener layer on my PX removed, and Mags kindly offered to do it for me. But I'm getting cold feet now. Any advice? Should I leave it as is? The snap on the scissors is quite strong, stronger than on my Climber and Compact, but not by very much.

Doing that would make it a SAK that you wouldn't ever carry on it's own. Even the Compact has a combo tool. It would be a SAK that you would need to pair with something else, always. Sure you'd have scissors, knife, and awl. Lots of function there. But the opener layer is just too useful not to have with you. If the knife blade is the heart of a SAK, the opener layer is the legs it stands on.

Why not just carry a Compact?Or a pair of small scissors?

You carry four alox knives, plus other knives and tools. I think there's only Peacent who comes close to the amount of duplication (both gardeners, I notice ), and you are looking at losing one layer of one knife. I don't think I have any advice that will help You're just going to have to do whatever feels right for you, buddy
... a PX without the opener layers would have all of the tools I deem neccesary in an urban environment...
I was thinking of having pliers added to my PX. But it would be so much cheaper to go with a Super Tinker Deluxe... What are your thoughts?
