600 Repair
on: June 10, 2016, 05:41:08 AM
Don't see me here often eh?

Well my Wife's MP600 needs a bit of TLC - the panels that hole the plier head into the handles have gone missing (I don't have a pic - the little clips on the outside of the slide?)

Before I just bin it and give her a LM  :) - Does anyone have any clever ideas on how to fix it?
(I'm nowhere near a Gerber dealer or facility, so I can't get genuine parts at this point)

Do you mean the c clips that hold the pliers? I if so you can request them on their site http://www.gerbergear.com/Meet-Gerber/Support/Warranty-Information

Says near bottom I think, really easy to put on

It is actually on the FAQ page:

I have never needed parts for any of the MTs but they have always been good enough to mail me parts for a couple other things Gerber that I have  Can't hurt to just email them and see  :tu:

Aren't they essentially just master link clips off of a bike chain? You might try a bike shop. But I think going through Gerber is the best bet, since the piece has a little bit of bend to it that the master link would lack.

That's what I'm hoping.

Oh, I'll get the proper gerber ones eventually, but current circumstances require a temporary solution. I'm going to try to get some bike links, if that doesn't work, I don't know, super heavy duty paperclips?  :D

I am sure that the bike clips will work. Maybe just not as well, but they should at least be functional. The trick will be finding the right size :tu:

Good idea! :tu: I don't need them, as I can just reuse the ones that are currently on my MP600, so please hook seamonster up if you want to.

If you mean the fastener for the tools then heat it with a lighter to break the loctite and undo it with pliers.

I appreciate Lowtechs offer :) :), however for the moment I am unable to come up with a delivery address,

That said I've managed to conjure up some friends who can receive mail for me, and might be able to forward it on later, so I contacted Gerber -

A package was shipped to you on 06/16/2016 via Raven to the following address:

Dagon, Herr von Salzwasser.
C/O
William Wallace

Until then, I guess LM Wave will get all the glory while the Gerber wallows in convalescence.

Well, the winged monkeys did their bit, and now the ol 600 is up and going again.

Thanks to Gerber (and the team at the Pony Express who got the parts to me).
