Fishing, hammock, sheep and tortillas
on: June 19, 2016, 06:47:41 PM

I went fishing today...

I took the my parents dog with me and found a nice little lake in the woods.

I figured this would be a nice trip to test my ticket to the moon hammock.
Had I known it was this easy to set up, I would have gotten one years ago. :)

I have been thinking about alternative camping food, and after seeing them eat tortillas on ISS, I thought Id try it out as camping food.
After checking the calorie content of a pack of tortillas I understand why NASA use it, and why it should make good hiking food. One pack of 8 small tortillas contain over 1000 calories. That means that the contents in this picture actually contains enough calories to feed a grown man for 24 hours.

Great spot to set up.  Tortillas are a great camp food.  Pretty versatile in what they will hold.  I like I can put most anything inside and roll it up and munch away.  They are flat so packing them is easy too.

I actually got a fish too. A small bass that I threw back into the lake, as it was too small.

The local farmers here had let their sheep go up into the woods for the summer, and after a while some got close to my little camp.
The dog, that had been barking like a mainiac at every bird flying by, showed what a good guard dog he is, and didnt pay any atention to them. :D

(Thats a pic of the dog, not a sheep ;) )
I was making dinner, when suddenly a mother with two lambs came charging through the woods.
Normally, shouting at them and walking towards them, make them run for the hills. But not theese. Theese where on a mission, and that mission was stealing my tortillas!

I grabbed a stick I had bern whittling on and had to use that to keep the sheep at bay.
The mother still went hard at it, and I had give her a few taps with the stick to make her get the point and turn away.
They then went for my hammock!
Finally I managed to chase them off, the dog hiding behind me the whole time without making a sound.  :D

I wish there had been a video camera filming me, it would have been hilarious to watch!

Looks like a very nice spot to fish and relax. I am with you Jerseydevil... could have had fish tacos or lamb fajitas... just saying  :P

Another high calorie food item good for outings is olive oil. 1 table spoon is over 100 calories. Mix it with you food and as dip to increase the calorie intake.

I noticed olive oil has a very high calorie content. I bet mixing it with rice would work well. Also tuna in olive oil works well with tortillas.

Looks like a great time!

I guess what we call a Perch, you call a Bass. Pretty cool seeing the different notations!
