5.5 inches.

Your right I don't think I would cut my hand off with that blade  I would cut my whole arm off :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :D It really is a sweet looking folder :tu:

Agreed, very sweet folder. Just way too large for my needs. Once the blade exceeds 4 inches, it is excessive for what I use it for regularly. My sweet spot is a 3.5 inch blade.

Yeah that is more in my blade range size as well
Do I have the need for a blade this big, normally no, thank heaven.
But I do take pride and joy carrying it.
If I do find myself in a dire situation, it would be there for me.

I totally get it and if I thought I could carry it myself without getting those looks I'd be right there with ya in carrying it Kamp  but unfortunately even in the area I am in people aren't as tolerant to blade as they should be :(
I live in the liberal infested SF Bay Area of California, I feel ya brother.
For normal cutting tasks in public I would use the butter blade on my Spirit to avoid unwanted attention.

Sure those mega folders don't carry as well as other average size folders, but really not as bad as you imagined.
You will know what I mean after carried it for a couple days.

Today I used the Spirit to open up the package containing...

a new Spirit I got from eBay!

It is used lightly, with great worn sheath and all accessories.

Only MT I now have double of, and pretend on using both. It's too shiny and beautiful, as well as versatile, not ot have a backup and not to put it to use.

Long live Spirits!

Still my favorite as well.  I could never carry such a large folder with it though.  I usually carry a much smaller and less intimidating knife around 2.5 to 3 inches, but if anyone asks I always say it is much bigger.  I'm carrying my Spirit today with a recently acquired CRKT Drifter.  The plain edge of the Drifter will cut most things and the serrated edge of the butter blade in the Spirit will cut anything else.

The Spirit is precise and well made but I dislike the design. Nothing is very convenient to get. I actually find Leatherman "toolbox" designs easier to get the tools because I can loosely use any of my fingers. With the Spirit you have to use the thumbnail to efficiently get at most of tools. The fact that all the tools are on the outside of the Spirit is not a feature to me because they're not as easily deployable as other designs. I think the Wave/Charge/Surge format is a much better design than the Spirit. But I also think that if Victorinox ever made a tool with the Wave format it would likely be the best multitool you could own. I also dislike the Spirit scissors, too small a cutting area for taking up a large space. The chisel/scraper multi-function tool is brilliant, more MT companies should embrace that design.

If you carry a folder I can see how the Spirit would be a perfect compliment. Also if you live in a country where OHO is illegal or restricted I can also see how the Spirit design isn't a negative.

You have a very well thought through opinion, which I fully respect! :salute:

BUT:
The Spirit has a very high tool density, lies very comfortable in hand and as you mentioned, has everything on the outside.

A Charge imo is not a toolbox design. A Rebar for example is.

Compared to a tool like that, nothing beats a Spirit.

The Wave/Charge platform is awesome! ... In it's own way.
The Spirit Is awesome! ... In it's own way :tu:

Can't give my 50c on the scissors though, I've got the dual blade variant.

You didn't get what I was saying, sorry if I wasn't clear.

I prefer the Rebar/ST300 toolbox design to the Spirit design. The outside tools of the Spirit offer no advantage to me because I still have to use two hands to access them like a Rebar/ST300. The tools on the Spirit are also harder to remove with any finger(or any part of your finger), it is much easier IMO to remove tools on a Rebar/ST300. The clumping on a Rebar/ST300 which many consider a flaw to me is a feature because I can more easily find the tool I want. I am sure many everyday Spirit users have built up the muscle memory to know where to locate everything, but when I try to use it I find myself flipping the tool around looking for the implement I want. And then if you then look at Leatherman's other design Wave/Surge, for my needs it's so clearly superior.

But basically to summarize, I don't like the Spirit design. That's what stops me from carrying it. It's made better than probably any multitool but who cares if I don't want to carry it.
