My new SAK!!!
on: September 11, 2008, 05:05:43 PM
I did a little horsetrading with NutSAK and I ended up getting a Vic Outrider

http://www.swissarmy.com/MultiTools/Pages/Product.aspx?category=lockblades&product=54731&

As some of you may recall lately I've been carrying a Vic Fieldmaster. But when I felt like carrying a locking SAK I only had my adventurer. When I had that I really missed having scissors. And since my wife does most of the driving a lot of the time I didn't have a keychain on me so obviously having a Classic on that didn't help. Besides, I wanted to carry 1 knife. So I got to looking and I found the Outrider, similar tools and a locking blade. Plus a corkscrew. So I decided I wanted it.

I received it yesterday and so far I'm impressed. Obviously I haven't had it very long but since it's a Vic it's very well made. And although it's a fairly good sized knife it's not too heavy. And it's smooth so pocket carry is not a problem. The one question I have about it is the long thin Phillips screwdriver, I don't know how much use it'll get but since it sits under the scissors when closed it doesn't make the knife thicker. So we'll see how useful it is. If nothing else it'll make a good pokey thingy.

So I'm gonna carry this thing around and see how I like it. I just wanted to share with y'all my excitement of a new knife. I'm sure y'all know exactly how it is when you get a new one.

I think you're going to find yourself wondering why you didn't get an Outrider sooner. They appear to be a favorite SAK for BOBs.That's one 111mm SAK I'd love to see as a OH version.

Is the "business end" of the long phillips the same size as the shorter, inline phillips on an Explorer model?  It appears to be smaller in pictures, but I though that just might be because it is longer.

I don't know about the Explorer since I don't think I've ever held one but it is a small Phillips. I'm sure the can opener tip will still get the bulk of use on Phillips screws.

The small phillips is a great size, I so wish it were available on the 91mm line.

Could the small phillips be modded into a 91mm SAK?

Maybe.  I haven't tried.  Here's a shot of said tool just hanging loose on a 91mm frame.  Get the grey cells working people and tell me how I can do it :D

Well after having it a few days I figured I'd give an update. I'm still carrying it. And still love it. It has come in handy a few times. The Phillips has worked OK with the little things I've used it for. I haven't had a chance to really work it though. Everything else is just typical Vic quality. In other words almost perfect. It is big but it hasn't been a problem carrying because it's not very heavy.

Thanks for the update DTH.  I'm going to have to give the Outlander some consideration.

BTW, I'm still enjoying my end of the deal too.  ;)

Nice score DTH. I do like the look of these 111mm SAKs. Might have to get me one of them.

I used to come here a lot.
