This might be old news to some of you, but I know I missed it!

In December 2015 the regulations relating to importing various 'weapons' and firearms had a few amendments made.

-A good summery of the state of knife importation https://www.corecarry.com.au/what-knives-can-you-import-into-australia/
-PDF of the press release from Customs / Border control http://www.border.gov.au/Customsnotices/Documents/2015-40.pdf

All the information relating to the changes is contained in those two links, but the key for us is that the infamous 'flick' test is no more, and most one hand opening blades are now able to be imported (read- purchased from your favourite ebay seller / MTO member) without issue!

A few caveats:

-Automatic / assisted opening blades, and concealable blades are still a no no (read the links for more info).
-The legislation is federal and relates to importation, but please check the regulations / laws of your state to ensure you can legally own / carry what you import

Finally, we can purchase the same one-hand openers that our North American friends have always had, for reasonable prices!

Me, I'm going to start with a RAT 1...for now!

The controls on single-handed opening knives and parts for single-handed opening knives have been
removed (Items 16 and 17 of Schedule 13).
o
This allows importers to import single-handed opening knives that can be opened by gravity, inertia or
centrifugal force. These knives have many lawful uses, including for use in outdoor recreational
activities such as camping, mountaineering and hiking.

About Bloody time.

Interesting to note that this document is dated December 2015, but this information had not been updated at the airport when I flew out this year.
I might keep a copy of this on me for my return to Aus in case some overzealous chap in the customs clearance tries to acquire my knifsies.

Yeah not a bad idea to keep a copy on hand just in case. Like many things government-related there does seem to be a delay with those who are in charge of enforcing the legislation...becoming aware of what the current legislation is

I've ordered myself that RAT 1 I was eyeing off- $28AUD delivered  :D Better than $70 locally
