Post a thread with whatever you want the "contest" to be.  Set your rules, and determine what you'd like to GAW.  Since its your GAW you decide how and what it looks like.  Be as creative or not creative as you like.  Its pretty fun actually.

Yep! Aloha got it pretty much right on the head. If you need any help, feel free to contact me or another mod.
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D

That is pretty much it in a nutshell.

We are always here to help.  I've given away a lot of stuff over the years, and had some successful and unsuccessful contests, so I have learned what works and what doesn't.  I'd be happy to share my experiences with you.

The number one rule is to not make it very hard to enter.  The more people have to do, the less likely they will do it, and if they have to leave a computer to do it, well you can pretty much be assured that it will flop, no matter how cool the prize is.  Don't believe me?  Ask Yud....

Years ago SOG had a contest for who could do the best Gunny impression.

You had to post a video of your best impression of R. Lee Ermey and you could win an all expenses paid trip to Las Vegas and a pass to attend the SHOT Show.  Pretty sweet prize, considering SHOT isn't open to the public, right?  There's got to be lots of selfie taking, Periscope viewing idiots out there that don't mind pretending to be a Drill Sergeant for a few minutes for a prize like that, right?

Wrong.

I think Yud was the only one who entered and SOG canned the contest and sent him some consolation prizes for his effort.

So yeah, I wouldn't suggest that you ask people to do very much- it's amazing how lazy the internet really is!

Good info everyone that helps.

I agree with Grant. It will be simple. The most difficult part is thinking of a good prize.

They won't like the idea I came up with then. Would require a calculator and some post views. Poncho65 would probably win (something) easily.

Or I could send what I have to Grant and let him sort it out.

I'd just hold a contest and give it away

Thanks D for the terrific compliment.  We all resemble that remark in more ways than not.

While it is a bit sad if you have only one entry (after all holding a contest is also a bit of work). For me personally, one contestant is enough... those that put effort or thought into their entry are more deserving of winning.

It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

There you go, the easiest way to have a GAW. Send stuff to Aloha007 and he'll take care of it from there...
