Liner gap, normal?
on: July 07, 2016, 04:43:44 PM
I was just looking at the Junior 9 I got yesterday, and noticed an odd problem.  There is a slight gap between the liners and backsprings.  This isn't an issue I've ever had on an SAK, period.

It doesn't appear to be hurting function, but has this happened to anyone else?

Sure. I have some with a tiny tiny gap between the liner/spring. Never a prob and is usually on an outer layer. Not unusual. Have seen far far worse in other brands that cost 4X the price.

If it's in-between the tools and liners then that's a problem. If it's where the middle pin is that's normal.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

I found if you measure the middle of the spring it is a a couple of thousands of an inch thicker than the ends of the spring. It seems Victorinox wants the middle tight and the ends of the spring to float in the knife. You might be able to see some gap near the ends. To me this is the way they designed the knife to work with Swiss precision.

Yup the springs are thinner than the tools in that layer to prevent binding.

Thats my guess ya.  Its funny that alot of high end folders are build with super ultra precision but they have horrible action after a bit of lint... SAKS are built to account for pocket crud.  :D
