At present I use these King Waterstones-
800-1200-3000 and  homemade strop with compound.

Those are cool! How do like waterstones? I remember seeing Ray Mears using them in a YT video but I have no experience in them.
Great, love just using water instead of oil.l wouldn't use anything else now. Only down side for me is needing to prepare ahead of time by soaking them first. These are relatively inexpensive compared to brands from Japan but they work for me.

Here's the one I use. This is an old stone from my grandpa. When he died mom told me that this was a valuable and quality sharpening stone and I had to handle it with care, it is said to be fragile.

I have used it with water and oil (when I was a kid I even tried milk lol), though I am still not sure which one performs better.

My gear

Bench stone and Oak box I made when I was in trade school. Leather from a old strop glued to the top. It has a dual sided oil stone that I use mainly for chisels but I've used it for knives in the past as well.

Some small stones and a diamond EZY lap that are great for touch ups.

Old strop I got at a garage sale years ago. I used part of it to put on top of my oilstone box.

I use the Lansky Turn box most of the time and it works really well as long as the edge isn't too far gone. I do have a couple of steels as well but didn't take any pics of those.

I'm currently out travelling Europe for a month but realised I wanted sharp knives. Luckily I found this second hand steel for 2$ a short while before leaving. It was made by EKA in Sweden and really small as seen by comparing it with a Spartan. Just what suited my needs (it's not like I will have to do any reprofiling out anything).

I've got the usual, vic ceramic, lansky 4 rod turn box and a lansky puck (which I don't like).

The new one to me is this and I'm waiting to have a day free when I can set it up and learn how to use it properly.

I have quite a few different ones that I use.

Lansky 3 stone kit with added S1000 Ultra fine stone.
Lansky 4 rod turn box.
DMT Aligner kit with the standard three stones (course, fine and x-fine stones) and added x-course stone.
Worksharp Field Sharpener.
and two sets of the Spyderco 701MF profile set as well as a Sharpmaker with stock med and fine rods.

I used to free hand on a three stone system. One of those 8” triangular blocks that sat in a base but I haven't used it in years.

The knives I use now won't sharpen much less re-profile with wet stones.
So I've switched to a KME diamond system, It works with smaller blades better than some of the more expensive systems.

I have 140, 300, 600, 1500 grit diamonds, I made a couple strops to fit into it. I clamp it in the bench vice to use it.

Once I have the profile set and it's sharp, I just use the larger bench strop to maintain the edge and don't use the system much at all.

The funny thing or maybe it's the sad thing but I spent more on the KME system than my first D2 steel knife.

Hey Mike are the 701 MF about the same as using the triangle stones of the Sharpmaker free hand

I would say they maybe similar but the 701's will lay flat and they are longer so to me they are easier to use.

Thanks SAK Guy. The largest knife I've sharpened on the Edge Pro is our chef's knife, which is around 10". It is probably the practical limit, but in theory the EP can handle any length blade.

These days I often sharpen freehand using a DMT diasharp benchstone, DMT diafolds or the EP stones.

It works great on slip joint style and small to medium fixed blades. So for me it is perfect.

The Kabar Mark 1 is about the longest fixed blade i would recommend using the KME on. It rotates and locks on a spring detent so there is a limit to how much weight you could hang on it.
It's really not made for the thick (1/4") blades either.

I usually just grab the Sharpmaker (not pictured) when I need a touchup.  If I need more than that, I grab the DMT Aligner kit or Lansky guided (just sitting on my bench so already out).  Since I have this much and don't use my blades too much, I was trying to downsize cause some are basically duplicates and sell of the Lansky guided and turn box ones.  I am not sure if I posted them for sale here or not but I did in other places!  :)
